From Schubert to the Great American Songbook

The 2014 Concerts at the Crane Winter/Spring series continues with a performance of chamber music and jazz standards by local favorites Peter H. Bloom and Mark Leighton.
Flutist Peter H. Bloom and guitarist Mark Leighton have performed together for over 20 years, winning praise for superb musicianship and entertaining concerts spanning the classical and jazz traditions. They've performed at museums colleges, and libraries across the Northeast. The program will include music by Franz Schubert, Jacques Ibert, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Mauro Giuliani (Grand Duo for Flute and Guitar). Also on the program: favorites from the Great American Songbook by legendary tunesmiths Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, and George Shearing.
Mark Leighton, guitar, is a classical and jazz musician known for his superb artistry and wide-ranging repertoire. He has performed as a solo recitalist and ensemble player across the Northeast. He serves on the Applied Music Faculty at Colby College, teaches at Eastern Nazarene College and St. George’s School, and served previously as Artistic Director of First Night Quincy. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Mr. Leighton studied with noted guitarists Robert Sullivan, David Leisner and Sharon Isbin, among others.
Peter H. Bloom, flute, tours internationally with classical and jazz ensembles and appears on 35 recordings from labels including Sony Classical, Newport Classic, Dorian, Leo Records and 9Winds. He concertizes in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, performing with leading ensembles including Ensemble Chaconne, Olmsted Ensemble, and the internationally acclaimed Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (41st season).
