Discover Historic New England: Thoreau's Cape Cod

book jacketJoin us as we celebrate Henry David Thoreau's 200th birthday this year with a special presentation about his book Cape Cod followed by a guided walk along some of Quincy's own magnificent coastline. Adam Gamble, author of "In the Footsteps of Thoreau, 25 historic & nature walks on Cape Cod" will talk about Thoreau's encounter with the "wildness" of the ocean and share a slideshow of his own photographs of Cape Cod.

Join Peter Fifield and Sally Owen for a stroll around Squaw Rock, using quotes from Thoreau's work, to imagine how he might have experienced it on Saturday, August 5, starting at 6:30 p.m. (Rain date: Sunday, August 6 at 6:30 p.m.). Share your thoughts, knowledge and questions about Thoreau.   Bring bug spray and wear long pants and socks that can cover pants bottoms (to minimize tick exposure).  Meet in the Nickerson Post parking lot at the end of Dorchester Street in Squantum, at Squaw Rock Park. For more information and rain date rescheduling, please call 617/472-0799.
