I EXIST: Art from the Immigrant Student Movement
The TeenZone presents artwork by Julio Salgado, the young co-founder of DreamersAdrift.com, whose illustrated posters have become a staple of the DREAM Act movement.* People across the country have used Salgado's artworks as emblems of the youth-led movement for education access. Frequently using the phrase "I Exist," Salgado's art challenges words like "illegal" and "alien" that tend dehumanize undocumented immigrants.
*The DREAM Act was recently signed into law by California Gov. Jerry Brown, expanding access to state financial aid for thousands of immigrant youth.
