He has served on the Board of Directors of 37 software companies, is a founding trustee of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, and was past-president of the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) and the American Software Association.

Ron McAdow & Marylynn Gentry-Great Presenter Series

CAPTURING WILDLIFE ON HIDDEN CAMERARon McAdow & Marylynn Gentry
Ron and Marylynn will offer a slide-illustrated presentation about wildlife found in our region, and how wildlife habitat is conserved by Sudbury Valley Trustees. SVT’s motion-triggered cameras have captured native wildlife images not often observed in the wild. Of particular interest are photographs recording wildlife using four passageways under Route 2. SVT was founded in Wayland 55 years ago to save a place for nature in our area by conserving land in Wayland and 35 surrounding towns.
Ron is Executive Director of SVT and Marylynn is a current Board member of Sudbury Valley Trustees, having recently stepped down as President. She served on the Wayland Conservation Commission for 12 years.

Mike Patterson-Great Presenter Series

DEVON ISLAND IN THE CANADIAN ARCTIC
Mike Patterson
Mike will share his experiences involving two weeks and 110 miles of trekking in the Canadian North, between drop-off and pick-up—including hiking over tundra and on the ice cover, wild life, weather conditions and arctic mirages.
Since retiring, Mike has led an adventurous life—climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, climbing in Ecuador and France, canoeing down the Soper River on Baffin Island, trekking in the northern Yukon and across Ellesmere Island (less than 500 miles from the North Pole). Less arduously, he has walked across England along Hadrian’s Wall.

Nancy Poydar
Nancy will share how she broke into the competitive children’s book field as a writer and illustrator. Her numerous titles include 14 picture books. She will share the process of book making with samples of each stage culled from her work.
Nancy Poydar was a teacher in Concord for fourteen years. Most of her stories are classroom situations. She has degrees in English and Education from Tufts University and took art classes at The Boston Museum School, Decordova, and Drumlin Farm. Her latest book is "Fish School" about losing a pet fish at an aquarium.

Bob will clarify for a general audience recent information on this subject that has received wide popular coverage. He’ll describe what PSA screening can and cannot tell your doctor, alternative treatments (from ‘watchful waiting’ to radical surgery), and newer treatment modalities.
Robert C. Eyre, M.D. is Associate Professor of Surgery (Urology) at Harvard Medical School and Chief of Urology at the Faulkner Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess/Needham Hospital. He has spoken widely to lay audiences and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles on urologic oncology. He has been selected annually since 2002 for inclusion in Best Doctors in America.

Over the past 40 years Jerry Mitchell has managed billions of dollars for both public entities and private institutions. For 26 years he was a partner at Wellington Management Company. He was the Chief Investment Officer of the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board for four years and is currently the Chair of its Investment Committee.

In recent years, hypnosis has gained increasing respect from the medical community and health plans for its effectiveness. It allows your mind to accept positive suggestions which help you to let go of behaviors not working for you. Virginia will explain what hypnosis is and how it works. She will conclude with a 20 minute demonstration session.
Virginia Slep has a private practice in Clinical Hypnotherapy. She works closely with many doctors and hospitals in Boston and Metrowest and has offered hypnosis programs at Framingham State, Regis College, and Middlesex Community College.

FROM IMHOTEP TO IRAQ: MEDICAL ADVANCES THROUGH WAR

From the time of the earliest known physicians in ancient Egypt up until the present, many medical advances have come through military experiences. These include epidemiology, sanitation, gastric physiology, amputations, prosthetics, transfusions, burn treatments, and neuro-psychiatric diseases. Ron will cover this history and how these advances have been integrated into civilian care, projecting what is coming in the future.
Ron is a retired orthopedic surgeon. He served as an Army surgeon in Viet Nam and has held faculty appointments at Washington University, Vanderbilt University, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Who were the Shakers, what was their philosophy, and how was this reflected in their furniture? How does utopian and efficiency fit in? Who were the master Shaker craftsmen and why could they achieve so much more than their worldly counterparts? What is joinery and what were their materials and tools? Gene will cover all of this and more.
Gene, trained as a professional philosopher, is a nationally recognized craftsman specializing in Shaker furniture. He owned and ran a successful small retail business for 20 years in Wayland and Concord (Great Meadows Joinery) where he designed and built Shaker furniture as a major part of the business.

George Brawerman-Great Presenter Series

ON THE FRINGE OF THE HOLOCAUST
George Brawerman
George grew up in Belgium and spent the war years under German occupation. He will recount some of his experiences as a target of Nazi persecution, with emphasis on what it feels to be in hiding, in constant danger of being caught. He will also address, from his own perspective, the apparent acceptance of many Jews to be led to slaughter without offering any resistance.
Upon arriving in the United States in 1949, George embarked on an academic career as a biochemist at Columbia, Yale and Tufts Medical Schools. After retiring, he pursued his interests in writing and photography.
