Rio Grande Valley Ballet and Artistic Director Deborah Case celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Nutcracker in 2012. The Valley’s longest-running show was first staged by RGV Ballet founder Doria Avila in 1972, and has become a holiday tradition for generations of families across South Texas. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, December 8th at 7:00PM and Sunday, December 9th at 2:00PM and tickets will go on sale in early September.
The ballet company also celebrates 40 years of low-cost student matinees open to schools throughout the Valley. Since 1972, over 270,000 students have enjoyed The Nutcracker at these special shows, making the joy of dance available to everyone. Teachers are reminded to make their class reservations early to guarantee seating.
