The Auburn Public Library is proud to offer a reading and discussion group during which we will focus on connecting and building community.  What attributes do we share which connect us as members of a local community?  How can we gain a greater understanding of and empathy for one another?  Our reflections will be based on books, poetry, articles, and a film or two, and will touch upon four key components:  connection, empathy, diversity, and community.  Any books or articles we read will be provided to the group members, and the books are for participants to either keep for their personal library or to share with someone else.

Our monthly discussions will be facilitated by James Ford, a black man who has spent over 40 years in Maine and works as a Restorative Practices Coordinator in Lewiston.  Dylan Welch, an English major at Bowdoin College will also be joining us each month.  Dylan brings with him a love of poetry which will be woven into our monthly meetings.

Meetings will be held monthly, the 3rd Thursday of each month, September through May, and will be held via Zoom.  The book group is open to teens (ages 16 and up) and adults.

This program is made possible by a grant from the Maine Public Library Fund.
