Steve Fagin, whose award-winning Great Outdoors column appears in The Day newspaper, will speak about his new book, AMC’s Best Day Hikes in Connecticut & Rhode Island.

This 350-page volume, the fourth edition of a popular guide published by The Appalachian Mountain Club, has been revised and expanded with new hikes that range from easy strolls to strenuous scrambles. It includes maps and color photographs for each of the 60 outings, as well as essays describing interesting historic and natural features.

In addition to writing his weekly newspaper column, Fagin serves as book editor of Appalachia, America’s longest-running journal of mountaineering and conservation. His articles have been published in The New York Times and Runner’s World magazine, and is co-author of the book Treasures of Southeastern Connecticut.

While this new book focuses on hikes close to home, Fagin has scaled all 67 New England 4,000-footers with his son, Tom, and climbed in the Himalayas, Andes and Alps. He lives in Ledyard with his wife, author Lisa Hall Brownell. 

Fagin will sign copies of the new book during the April 23 event, which will begin at 6:30PM.
