Connecticut Pirates & Privateers, a Zoom presentation by Wick Griswold, Thursday, June 3 at 7pm
The waters, inlets and islands of Connecticut once swarmed with fabled corsairs such as Captain Kidd and Blackbeard. In colonial times and through the nineteenth century, more than one hundred privateers used the Connecticut River and waterways as a home port, influencing the geopolitics of the time. Wick Griswold uncovers the swashbuckling stories of these colorful Connecticut characters, brimming with historical facts and local myths. Wick teaches the sociology of the Connecticut River at the University of Hartford’s Hillyer College.
