Name Connecting Books and Boys [Marlborough]
Start 2012/09/20 at 09:30:00 AM
End 2012/09/20 at 03:00:00 PM
Description (old) Boys are in trouble. All right, it seems boys are always in trouble, but this is serious. Boys are failing to  read at an alarming rate. Libraries are not solving the problem because boys are not a presence in  libraries. Find out how we lose boys, and why, what the consequences are for boys, and what we as librarians can do to save boys from lives as non-readers.

Michael Sullivan brings more than fifteen years’ experience as a Children’s Librarian and Library Director, storyteller, and chess teacher. He is the author of several children’s books as well as Connecting Boys With Books ( ALA , 2003), Connecting Boys With Books 2: Closing the Reading Gap ( ALA , 2009), The Fundamentals of Children’s Services ( ALA , 2005), and Serving Boys Through Readers Advisory (ALA, 2010). He will share practical, proven, and sometimes off-beat suggestions on how to turn boys into life-long readers.

Please bring a non-perishable lunch.

Attendance is limited to 30. MLS will webcast a part of the afternoon when Michael will be speaking on “Why Boys Lit Gets a Bad Rap”. If you are interested in hearing this, please register and indicate in the comments "Webcast". We will send you instructions previous to the workshop. This part will take place at around 1:00 pm. While this workshop is full, you can still register for the webinar section by putting "webcast" in the note field.
