Libraries in the U.S. have a long history of supporting marginalized communities, but are we currently creating spaces that support gender diversity across the continuum? We need to understand that gender diversity includes more people than men, women, and transgender people. We need the tools to create supportive relationships with our trans* constituents, to prepare ourselves for tough conversations with patrons, and to create supportive programs and communities.
In this hand-on workshop, we will build a shared understanding of the differences between sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, and sexuality and of how these identities can be marginalized across the spectrum. We will confront our own fears and prepare to champion the tough questions about gender diversity in our library communities. Together, we will build a digital toolbox with resource ideas for programs, spaces, and conversations that support gender diversity.

Note: "Trans*" is a term often used as an umbrella term referring to people who identify as transgender or gender non-conforming.
