Mind in the Making:  Seven Essential Skills  Modules  Professional  Development for Museum and Library Educators.

Training consists of four  3 ½ hour meetings to be held:  December 14, 2015  February  8,  April  11, and June 13, 2016 from 9:30-1:00 pm .  Participants must commit to the full training schedule in order to be eligible.

The first training will take place December 14 in the Children’s Program Room at the Worcester Public Library. Subsequent trainings will be held at the MLS- Marlboro Office.

Mind in the Making Professional Development is designed for library professionals to understand and promote the Seven Essential Life Skills that can help children and adults thrive both now and in the future. This training is designed to engage adults in learning skills that translate into fun and engaging activities and programs that help children learn how to learn. This four part training will enable library staff to better understand brain development and Executive Function Life Skills and how to promote these skills in themselves and the children and families with whom they work.  Subsequent trainings will be held in February, April and June.  This training is based on the work of Elin Galinsky  President of the Families and Work Institute at the Bank Street College of Education in New York.

Training is grounded in the research- based premise that families and professionals are better able to provide experiences that   support children’s development when they are able to incorporate that research into what they do with children every day.  This workshop will be co-taught by Shelley Quezada, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and Stephanie Young,  Director of the Woods Memorial Library in Barre, MA.

Training is designed for professionals who work directly with young children 0-6 and who will commit to the full 14 hours.   Based on the facilitated learning approach offered by this training there will only be 16 spaces available.
