The Smallest War Heroes: The US Army Pigeon Service
The US Army Pigeon Service began with a few donated pigeons on the battlefields of World War I.
This program discusses the impact that "hero pigeons" played in World War I and World War II.  Highlights include WWI hero, Cher Ami, who saved approximately 200 lives of the 77th Infantry dubbed, "the Lost Battalion" in October 1918.  Fort Monmouth, New Jersey was home to this service until its discontinuation in 1957.
