Behind the Lines a.k.a Regeneration (1997) (R)

Siegfried Sassoon, real-life war hero and poet, writes an anti-war statement that is read in Parliament. Faced with the choice of either a court-martial or time in a mental hospital as a result, Sassoon chooses the hospital, and is sent to Craiglockhart, a Scottish castle where shell-shocked vets are being treated by Freudian therapist Dr. William Rivers. Sassoon soon befriends a pair of fellow inmates. One is suffering from battlefield trauma and the other is a shy young fan and fellow poet, who has also written anti-war statements. During their stay, the once-zealous Dr. Rivers begins to question his role of mending patients' minds so that they may simply go back to the front lines. (Rotten Tomatoes, 2019). Based on Pat Barker’s novel Regeneration. Directed by Gillies MacKinnon. Starring Jonathan Pryce, James Wilby, Johnny Lee Miller, and Tanya Allen.
