Guitarist Congyi Zhang
Join us for a free classical guitar concert presented by the Young Musicians Forum which will showcase guitarist Congyi Zhang, a graduate student at the Mannes School of Music in New York City. He will perform works by Piazzolla, Tarrega, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, among others.
Zhang recently won First Prize and the Peter Segal Award at the Philadelphia International Classical Guitar Competition. Other awards include being a semi-finalist in the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition and also the Greiner Award for Best Performance of a contemporary guitar concerto in that competition; he gave the premiere of Ernesto Cordero's Concierto Antillani with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Founded in 2004, this competition is the first concerto competition for classical guitarists.
His concert performances have been at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in China, the Frick Collection in NYC, Peking University, a four city concert tour in China this past summer, and other venues throughout Canada, and the United States. Zhang also enjoys playing fingerstyle guitar and mandolin, as well as the Chinese dulcimer, er-hu, flute, vioin and piano.Central Library, McChesney Room
