THURSDAY, AUGUST 8TH @ 7PM
NATIONAL DOLLAR DAY! .
Join us and our furry friends in the children’s section of the library for an opportunity to read to the dogs. The main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere, which allows kids to practice the skill of reading. By sitting down next to a dog and reading to the dog, all threats of being judged are put aside. The child relaxes, pats the attentive dog, and focuses on the reading. Reading improves because the child is practicing the skill of reading, building self-esteem, and associating reading with something pleasant.
Each child will receive the LOOK OUT! A STORM paperback book to read to the dogs and take home with them. Each Ready-to-Go! Ready-to-Read includes a note to parents explaining what their child can expect, a guide at the beginning for readers to become familiar with the words they will encounter in the story, and reading comprehension questions at the end. Each Ready-to-Go! story contains no more than 100 words and features sight words, rhyming words, and repetition to help children reinforce their new reading skills. In this book, readers will learn twelve sight words, and four words from one word family. So come on and get reading!!!
This is also a last chance week to add stickers to your Summer Reading Tracking sheet. An hour reading program=4 stickers...Yeah!!!
Who will collect the most dollars for National Dollar Day?
