misc_none 6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Paranormal Investigation & Historic Houses Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend

Is this house haunted?

Have you ever had anything strange happen to you in here?

Do you feel something creepy in this house?

These are all questions the Hayward Area Historical Society (HAHS) team hears at our historic properties: Meek Mansion in Meek Park and the McConaghy House in Kennedy Park. HAHS has found answers to these questions and more.

Many paranormal research groups have investigated the two locations and found them to be very active sites. Data collected previously includes electronic voice phenomena, cold spots, touches, apparitions and much more.

In her talk, Heather Farqhuar, Collections and Historic Properties Manager for HAHS, will share evidence collected by investigators and provide information about how you can get involved.

Stop by the library for a riveting presentation on Tuesday, April 25 at 6:30 pm.

For more information about the Hayward Area Historical Society, you may visit the museum at 22380 Foothill Blvd., Hayward, CA, 94541; call 510-581-0223; or visit www.haywardareahistory.org

Exercise with the San Lorenzo/San Leandro Chapter of the No Excuse Moms! Enter through the Library's Community Room Doors and start your week of right - by sweating your cares away!

Who is a No Excuse Mom?
She’s a mom who makes no excuses for making her health a priority. She’s someone who prioritizes her health, her family’s health and understands the ripple effect their role plays in the health of their community. These moms chose to transform their lives by consciously deciding every day that their health was worth it. When they were tired they trained. When they were lost for time to exercise, they found the time. When they were busy, they purposefully planned and prepared their daily goals and meals to coincide with what they wanted out of life. Some work outside the home, some have multiple children, some dealt with depression and some are raising a family on their own. They are true examples of real every day women – whose fitness manifests in different sizes, shapes and ages. These women made No Excuses for not prioritizing the body that brought their babies into this world.

No Excuse Mom is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit program throughFitness without Borders. No Excuse Mom offers thousands of members online support and encouragement and boasts over 350 free workout groups in over 25 countries worldwide.

Everyone is invited! Come to the Roundtables to –

·      Hear about the Community Identifier projects

·      Share your thoughts about your community and how those should be reflected in the designs of the Community Identifiers

·      Meet the unique group of Artists who will make proposals for your community

·      This free event is open to the public and all ages are welcome

The Community Identifier Project involves designing and hand-painting the name of the community along with other simple design elements on freeway overpasses in Castro Valley, San Lorenzo and Ashland/Cherryland. In March 2017, three separate Artist Selection Committees, one for each community, met to review the qualifications and past work of a project pool of artists. The Selection Committees are comprised of community members and local artists. Each Selection Committee selected five artists who have been invited to create proposals for the Community Identifier Projects. The Community Roundtables are an important opportunity for the artists to learn more about the communities before creating their proposals.  Community members are encouraged to attend to share their thoughts about the special characteristics of their community and how those should be reflected in the designs of the Community Identifiers. The events will include a facilitated group discussion and other opportunities for the community and artists to interact and share ideas and information.

Your input is valued and needed!

Don’t miss this opportunity to share your ideas!

Can’t make it to the meeting but still want to share your ideas?

Go to http://tinyurl.com/ztqzvan to take a short survey! Your responses will be shared with the artist semi-finalists who are making proposals, and your comments will help influence the artists' designs for the Community Identifiers. We want you, the community, to be proud of the designs and feel like it represents your community.

Let’s stay in touch!

The best way to stay informed and involved is to be added to the Alameda County Arts Commission’s email list for this project. Send us an email at artscommission@acgov.org. If you don’t have email, we’ll send you updates by mail. Call us at (510) 208-9646 to provide your address. Visit www.acgov.org/arts (click on “What’s New”) for the latest project update.

Film Summary:

"The United States pays nearly twice as much for healthcare as any other industrialized nation, yet it still does not provide care for all of its citizens. While the Affordable Care Act has helped some peopel, many of us are feeling the pinch of rising costs and narrowing networks. Polls show that 58% of Americans favor a national publicly funded healthcare program. So why has the U.S. Congress not yet passed - or even considered - such a plan? This documentary delves into what single payer healthcare is, how it saves money, and what behind-the-scenes heroes are doing to clear the fog of misperception that keeps us from moving forward."
