Free 15-minute consultation with an attorney who will clarify your situation, advise you of your options, get you started with a solution, and make a referral when needed.

The Lawyers in the Library Program is a countywide service coordinated by the Alameda County Law Library and staffed by volunteer attorneys. Volunteers provide free consultation and referrals on a wide variety of issues including landlord tenant disputes, probate matters, employment problems, and other general consumer issues. These consultations take place at public libraries (including Alameda County Law Library) on a rotating basis throughout the month. The Lawyers in the Library program is an important step in the library’s mission of providing access to justice its community.

Advance registration is required.

The Albany library is offering a free Reading Club for intermediate level second language learners. Group participants have an opportunity to practice their conversation skills, read high interest books, and meet other learners while practicing their English. The reading group is open to new students. Our volunteer tutor has facilitated this group for the past 4 years. She is very good at encouraging reading, comprehension, pronunciation  and dialogue with adult learners (18 and older).

Crossing Donner Summit

This 20 minute documentary film reflects on the history of Chinese-American immigrants who built up the first Transcontinental Railroad and how they survived through wildness, severe winter, explosions, and discrimination in high Sierra. However, after the completion of the railroad battling years, they were driven out here and there. This film features Kim King, one of the tens of thousands Chinese workers, and his descendants' migrating, suffering, and contribution to build up the "American Dream" through more than one century. 

Followed by Q&A with filmmaker Min Zhou.

Confused by computers? A computer docent wil provide one-on-one tutoring to help you learn to use your computer, tablet, or smart phone. You can also learn to log on to the library's computers, get on the Internet, and find what you are looking for.

Appointments are available on Wednesdays at noon and 12:30pm.
