The Castro Valley Library celebrates Pride Month with a showing of Real Boy, the coming-of-age story of Bennett Wallace, a transgender teenager on a journey to find his voice—as a musician, a friend, a son, and a man. As he navigates the ups and downs of young adulthood, he works to gain the love and support of his mother, who has deep misgivings about her child’s transition. Along the way, Bennett forges a powerful friendship with his idol, Joe Stevens, a celebrated transgender musician with his own demons to fight.

The unconditional love of an animal friend can bring us so much joy. Animals become part of the family, and we feel their loss keenly. The Reverend Nancy Schluntz is an interfaith minister and animal chaplain with many years of experience serving people and animals. She will discuss how we communicate with our pets, how we can prepare them for changes, and how we can cope with the grief of their loss. Come with your questions.
