Castro Valley Library is pleased to offer this rare opportunity to hear traditional Portuguese Fado music performed by one of the country's premier ensembles.  Ramana Vieria and Ensemble will perform at the library on Saturday, May 3 at 2 pm.

Born and raised in San Leandro to Portuguese immigrant parents, Ramana has achieved international acclaim.  She studied at the American Conservatory of Music and further in Portugal, where she developed her authentic and individual style.  The performance includes the haunting traditional ballads and those with a modern spin.  The ensemble typically includes guitar, percussion and cello.

During this open lab time, you can use the computers to update or create a resume, search for jobs online, or build new work skills.

   and College-Level tutoring in Math, Physics, and Chemistry every Monday.  Subjects that will be covered include:

   Math: Algebra, Geometry, Pre Calculus, Analysis, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Ordinary Differential Equations
   Physics: All High School and College Physics
   Chemistry: High school chemistry
 

No Registration or appointment necessary, however participants must be high school aged or older.

A representative from Assemblyman Bill Quirk’s office will be available at the Castro Valley Library every first Tuesday of the month from 12 to 2pm to help you resolve California state-related issues. Assemblyman Quirk represents District 20 which includes Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview, Fremont, Hayward, San Lorenzo, Sunol, and Union City.
 
The Assemblyman’s representative will work with you to help if you have a problem with a state agency, need legislative information or information about proposed legislation, or just want to express your comments and concerns.

With "Discover Taiwan," Fremont Taiwan School aims to introduce Taiwanese culture to Bay Area's youth through monthly presentations on art, traditions, and delicacies. After each 1 1/2 -hour session of presentation, children will bring home a handcrafted treasure as a reminder of the cultural experience.

The California Highway Patrol and the Castro Valley Library present Start Smart: Teen Driver Program. CHP officers will discuss traffic collision avoidance techniques, collision causing factors, driver/parent responsibilities, and seatbelt usage. Additionally, testimonies will be provided by officers who have investigated fatal collisions involving teens, and by family members who have lost love ones in traffic collisions.

The Start Smart program is a driver safety education class which targets new and future licensed teenage drivers between the age of 15 - 19 and their parents/guardians.

A memorial service for Jenny Lin will be held at the Castro Valley Library on Friday, May 23, at 6:30 pm.  Following the service, there will be a candlelight walk along Castro Valley Boulevard.  Jenny Lin was tragically murdered on May 27, 1994, in her own home in Castro Valley.  To this date, there has been no arrest or conviction of her killer.  This event will serve as a reminder to the community that Jenny's murder is still unsolved, and that child crime prevention must continue to be forefront in people's minds.  During the event, the winners of the 2014 Jenny Lin Child Safety Contest will also be announced and awarded.  Anyone is welcome to join us for this special occasion.
