Registration has begun for the next session of the library's eBestseller Bookclub!  This is your chance to join a book club that reads only recent bestsellers and experience reading on a library owned tablet for 3 months…all for FREE!

Here’s how it works:

Attend the first meeting on September 9, receive your NOOK Tablet, and learn how to use it. For the next 3 months the group will meet once monthly (October 14, November 18, and December 9 from 6:30 to 8 pm) to discuss a book selected from the bestsellers preloaded on the NOOKs. On the last meeting, after the book discussion, the NOOKs are returned to the library to be readied for another group.

Curious about yoga but not ready to join an ongoing class?  This class is just for you! Dress in comfy clothes and bring an exercise matt if you have one!  All adults and teens are welcome regardless of current fitness level. 
Instructor Joe Sapena completed the teaching program at the Yoga Room in Berkeley. Because of the profound influence the practice of yoga has had in his life, he hopes to inspire and guide students in their own journey of discovery. Joe can be contacted at  jdsapena@aol.com.

A representative from Assemblyman Bill Quirk’s office will be available at the Castro Valley Library every first Tuesday of the month from 12 to 2pm to help you resolve California state-related issues. Assemblyman Quirk represents District 20 which includes Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview, Fremont, Hayward, San Lorenzo, Sunol, and Union City.
 
The Assemblyman’s representative will work with you to help if you have a problem with a state agency, need legislative information or information about proposed legislation, or just want to express your comments and concerns.

Open Monday afternoons from 12:30 to 3 pm and Wednesdays from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm, the drop-in Job Lab provides a quiet space for job seekers to use the library's laptops to work on employment-related tasks. During this open lab time, you can use the computers to update or create a resume, search for jobs online, or build new work skills.

  • Cell phones & Smartphones
  • Tablet Computers (iPad, Android, etc.) 
  • Digital Cameras and managing digital photographs
  • MP3 players, iPods, and digital music
  • Microsoft operating systems  
  • Backing up and copying files          
  • Internet browsing an searching
  • Applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Using social media such as Facebook and Twitter 
Bring your device or laptop or use a library laptop equipped with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010. Volunteer instructors are available in the  Learning Center from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. No registration is necessary.

The California Highway Patrol and the Castro Valley Library present Start Smart: Teen Driver Program. CHP officers will discuss traffic collision avoidance techniques, collision causing factors, driver/parent responsibilities, and seatbelt usage. Additionally, testimonies will be provided by officers who have investigated fatal collisions involving teens, and by family members who have lost love ones in traffic collisions.

The Start Smart program is a driver safety education class which targets new and future licensed teenage drivers between the age of 15 - 19 and their parents/guardians.

The Castro Valley Library is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic High School student volunteers, just a few hours a week, for its after-school Homework Assistance Center. Are you looking for community service hours or need some job experience for your resume? Sign up for hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00pm and help students tackle their homework, gain valuable experience, and have fun.
