If you like working with children, enjoy reading, and want to make a difference to the community, we have an excellent opportunity for you!

Centerville Library is currently recruiting teen volunteers to help with a children's reading program. For details and to apply, please download the application form and turn it in to the library.

This is a one-on-one reading program for children in grades 1-6.  Children meet with their trained teen volunteer weekly to improve reading.  Choose one from the six reading periods: 3:30-4:00pm, 4:15-4:45pm, 5:00-5:30pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  Program runs from the first week of  October through the end of May with some breaks.

Priorities will be given to children whose reading ability is below average.  To get on the priority list, please provide last year's report card or other reference during registration.  Priority registration must be done in person.

For general registeration, parents please call or come in person to speak with a reference librarian during Centerville Library's open hours: Tue. 1-8pm, Thurs. 11am-6pm.  Seats are limited and fill up very quickly so register as early as possible.

Registration is required and starts Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013

Join us for a 30-minute mixed-aged class for families. You will get to experience Music Together's wonderful approach to early childhood and family music! Cristal Garcia, Owner/Director of Early Start Music, will share songs from the Maracas Music Toghether Collection. Your children will love going on a "Train to the City", cooking "All Around the Kitchen" and "Dancing with Teddy". Free tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before the start of the program.

April's session has been cancelled. Please come next month on May 8

A volunteer from the Ohlone Humane Society will be here with a trained therapy dog for children to read to. This program is free, but does require a ticket to attend. Tickets will be available at the Information Desk starting at 3:00 pm. Each fifteen minute reading time will be shared between two kids. The following are the scheduled reading times: 3:30 pm, 3:45 pm, 4:00 pm, and 4:15 pm.
