Are you and adult needing to improve your math skills? Do you want to learn about secrets and short cuts to a better understanding of mathematics?  Then come to this free mathematics class for adults and learn about Basic Statistics Part 1 (Combinations).  This program will be held in the Dublin Library Program Room.

Instructor Vanessa Mason has taught courses in the areas of mathematics and statistics.  She teaches test preparation courses for educators and nursing students, and is the former Assistant Director for the California High School Exit Exam.  She currently teaches at California State University, East Bay.

Kidpower LogoStudents going into sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth grades in September are needed as volunteers this summer at the Dublin Library. Volunteers help children play the summer reading game and assist with other library tasks.

All interested volunteers MUST attend one of the orientation meetings listed below:

Tuesday June 3 at 6:30 pm

Wednesday June 18 at 1:30 pm

*Orientation sessions last about 40 minutes.

*Prospective volunteers learn about the program and requirements.

*Enrollment forms are handed out.

*Volunteers may schedule their first 2 shifts.

*Library staff are available to answer questions from volunteers and parents.

*Returning volunteers must attend an orientation meeting.

*Preference will be given to Dublin residents.

The Dublin Library is looking for motivated teens that are interested in volunteer opportunities this summer. Teens in 10th, 11th or 12th grades are invited to attend an orientation meeting for summer programs; please be aware that you must be able to commit to a weekly schedule. Vacations and absences cannot be accomodated. Interested teens must like working with people as all of these positions require working directly with children and adults.  Potential volunteers must attend this meeting in order to apply for an intership position (these are unpaid volunteer interships). Dublin residents will be given preference, but are not guaranteed a position. Selected teens will be notified the week of June 9th.

There are three programs that require teen assistance:

  • Summer Program Crew (4 positions available and an 18 hour commitment). Tuesdays, June 17th - August 12th from 12:30-2:30 pm. Teens help pass out tickets, help with crowd control and program preparation.
  • Preschool Program Crew (4 positions available and an 8 hour commitment). Wednesdays, June 25th - July 16th, 10:30-12:30. Teens help pass out tickets, help with crowd control and program preparation.
  • Hear All About It! Program Crew (2 positions available and a 5 hour commitment). Wednesdays, July 2 - July 30th, 6:30-7:30 pm. Teens help with crowd control, program preparation and help children complete craft projects.

Knit One Purl Two, the Dublin Library monthly knitting group, will meet in the Library Program Room from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This is a group of adult knitters who like to come together, visit and share their creativity. We do not offer knitting lessons, but there are usually some experienced knitters who can help if you have an unfinished project and need advice. Come learn about edible landscaping from speakers from the Alameda County Master Gardeners in the Dublin Library Community Room.

Edible Landscaping is the use of food plants as design features in a landscape.  These plants are used for both aesthetic value as well as consumption.  This presentation will cover Planning & Design, Planting & Maintenance, Harvest & Storage, and Food Safety with specific sections on vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruit trees.  Alameda County Master Gardeners will have handout materials available for you to use to assist you.  A follow-up event with Edible Landscaped Garden Tours will also be discussed with participants.

This program will be limited to the first 100 attendees.

Kick off the 2014 Summer Reading Game at a fabulous, fun-filled outdoor concert with The Raytones! Rock out with Ray the Rhino and his bandmates on the lawn behind the library. Be sure to bring your blanket, hat and sunglasses and come ready to dance and sing along!

This program is for school-aged children ages 5 and older. No tickets required for this program.

Lawyer in the Library will be offered on June 18, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The Dublin Library will start taking sign-ups one week before the lawyer's appearance  on June 11, 2014 . Sign up at the reference desk or call 925-803-7252.

Free legal assistance is provided by volunteer lawyers from the Alameda County Bar Association. An attorney will consult to define your problem, advise you of your options, get you started with a solution and make a referral when needed.

This program is especially for school aged children ages 5 and over. It will be held in the Library's Community Room.

There will be two shows, the first at 1:00 pm and the second at 2:00 pm. Seating is limited per show to the first 120 people.

Free Tickets are required. Tickets for both shows will be handed out beginning at 12:30 pm in front of the library.

We are looking for energetic and creative teens (ages 13-18) to join our Teen Advisory Group. This group will work together over the summer break to put together program ideas and look at possible redesign ideas for the teen area of the library. Teens interested in joining should attend this meeting or contact Mary Hughes at mcayers@aclibrary.org or (925) 803-7272. This is the last volunteer opportunity for teens during the summer months. Teens will earn community service hours for their participation in TAG.

Come to the Dublin Library Program Room and hear local author Margaret Zhao will speak about her  intimate memoir, “Really Enough: A True Story of Tyranny, Courage and Comedy,” the story of her struggle for survival, freedom and forbidden love, and the lives of a family declared  enemies of the state in the China of Chairman Mao.  Readers interested in true-life accounts of survival, freedom, strong mothers, immigrants rising, and interracial romance will be enthralled by this story of determination and hope. She will be selling copies of her book after her talk.
