Are you and adult needing to improve your math skills? Do you want to learn about secrets and short cuts to a better understanding of mathematics?  Then come to this free mathematics class for adults and learn about Basic Statistics Part 2 (Data Analysis).  This program will be held in the Dublin Library Program Room.

Instructor Vanessa Mason has taught courses in the areas of mathematics and statistics.  She teaches test preparation courses for educators and nursing students, and is the former Assistant Director for the California High School Exit Exam.  She currently teaches at California State University, East Bay.

TriValley CoderDojo is a part of the larger CoderDojo global movement of free computer coding clubs for young people ages 8-17 years old. TriValley CoderDojo, or TriV for short, is based in Dublin but open to youth in the surrounding TriValley area and beyond. Monthly sessions are held on the first Wednesday of each month with additional sessions added on occasion.  Meetings are in the Community Room at the Dublin Library. Monthly sessions offer an optional community sharing period from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The coding session begins at 7:00 pm and ends at 8:30 pm. The community sharing period allows members to get set up, meet up with their friends, and share their projects. Sessions are free, but tickets are required due to limited capacity. Come join the fun! To become a member and get involved, just complete the membership form. You will then be on the mailing list and receive registration notices for upcoming TriV meetings and events.

The TriV Coderdojo covers the following:

  • Tynker
  • Python

Join teaching Artist Angie Wilson of the Alameda County Arts Commission and use a combination of electronics materials and craft materials to create a wristband that lights up. This workshop will include how circuits work, along with design strategies for making duct tape cuffs to wear or attach to backpacks.

This program is just for 'tweens, ages 10 - 14. Registration is necessary and begins August 25. There is a limit of 30 participants. This program will take place in the Library Program Room.

The Friends of Dublin Library are having their Fall used book sale, September 12 - 14.  Friday night is a "members only" night from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  For new members, applications will be available starting at 5:30 pm.  Annual membership is $10 individual; $20 for family; $100 for individual lifetime membership.

The book sale include mass market paperbacks, trade paperbacks, hardcover titles, dvds and CDs for both children and adults.  There is a special section for teacher materials and vintage books.

The sale continues Saturday, September 13 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

High school students in grades 9-12 can apply for volunteer positions for Fall 2014 at the Dublin Library. We have openings in four programs: Homework Center, Lego Club, T.A.G. (teen advisory group) and Book Explorers. Information for all there programs, as well as the applications will be discussed at the orientation meeting on September 15th. All students interested in volunteering this fall must attend the orientation.

Free legal assistance is provided by volunteer lawyers from the Alameda County Bar Association. An attorney will consult to define your problem, advise you of your options, get you started with a solution and make a referral when needed.

Dublin Library's free homework help program starts today.  The Fall session will continue until December 18. The program is available Monday - Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.  Teen volunteers assist children in grades 3 to 8 with their daily school assignments.  The first time your child uses the Homework Help program, we ask you to fill out a permission slip. Once the permission slip is on file, your student just needs to sign in and sign out with the Homework Help Coordinator.   Homework Help focuses on daily assignments and is not a subsitute for professional tutoring, nor should it be used as child care.
