LONG-TERM CARE

Fremont Main Library – Fukaya Meeting Room

Tuesday, April 1, 2014, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Make the most of tomorrow by making smart choices today.

Learn from Michael C. Hettenbach, CLU, ChFC, CLTC, and a Long Term Care Product Specialist with New York Life. Mike focuses on the importance of long-term care in retirement planning, business planning and estate planning.

As we age, our needs often increase from day to day, which may be costly for you and your family. Now is the time to start planning who will take care of you when you need it most. A Long-term care insurance policy may be a valuable part of your retirement planning. It may help protect all you’ve worked for—your home, your savings, your legacy—giving you the means to afford the kind of care you may need, in the manner in which you choose.

This free seminar is sponsored by New York Life and the Fremont Main Library, through a Partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the American Library Association to promote financial literacy in the community. No registration is required.

Movie : Enchanted April (PG)

Showtime: 2:00 p.m.

Place: Fremont Library-Fukaya Room

Synopsis

Previously filmed in 1935 with Ann Harding, Enchanted April, a romantic novel by Elizabeth, was remade in 1992. The first film skips along superficially at 66 minutes: the second, directed by the always intriguing Mike Newell, runs 101 minutes, allowing for richer characterizations and a bottomless reserve of brilliant dialogue. Two cloistered, married English women (Josie Lawrence, Miranda Richardson) impulsively rent an Italian villa and embark upon a vacation without their spouses. They are joined by two other ladies: the high-flown aging widow Joan Plowright, and elegant upper-crust beauty Polly Walker) whom they've never met. Under the spell of an exotic new location, the foursome are in for quite a few life-altering experiences, many of them amusing, and not a few very surprising. Impeccably accurate in its recreation of European manners and mores in the 1920s, Enchanted April is sheer bliss from fade-in to fade-out

TAX DIVERSIFIED RETIREMENT INCOME

Fremont Main Library – Fukaya Meeting Room

Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

P. Tyler Ellis, LUTCF, Life Product Consultant, New York Life will focus on retirement products of benefit to you. Social Security, Pension Plans and Personal Savings are traditional products which may not even cover the most basic expenses, and have little tax benefits. With proper planning, you can minimize the effect taxes will have on your retirement.

Retirement is changing. It’s more active, exciting and longer. Many people can expect to spend 30 years or more in retirement. Preparing for retirement is changing, too. It is important to start early; stay focused, and be ready for any eventuality.

Synopsis

Following up on his masterfully told art house successes The Children of Heaven and The Color of Paradise, Majid Majidi directs this quietly affecting tale about illegal Afghan immigrants living and working in Iran. The film centers on Latif (Hossein Abedini), a young Iranian man who buys provisions and makes (awful) tea for the workers of a construction site. At the film's outset, an Afghan worker named Najaf falls from the second story and breaks his leg. A widower with five children to feed, Najaf is in dire financial straits. He sends his teenaged son Rahmat to the site under the care of family friend Solan. The teenager proves to be a lousy worker but a whiz at making tea. After one mistake too many, Memar -- the foreman -- has Latif hauling bags of plaster and puts Rahmat on tea detail -- a task which the lad proves to be quite a talent in. Rahmat also paints the kitchen, changes the curtains, and makes other rather unusual changes to the normally rough-and-tumble construction site. Soon everyone, save the resentful Latif, is eating lunch at an actual table bedecked with a tablecloth. Latif's anger and jealousy evaporates, however, once he makes a surprising discovery. This film was screened at the 2001 Toronto and AFI Film Festivals.
