This workshop is open to adult beginning creative writers for the porpose of offering inspiration and motivation.  The group meets four Mondays, Oct 13 & 20 and Nov 3 & 10 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm in the library's Chabot Room.  Participants must commit to attend all sessions and bring a page of their writing (with copies to share) to each meeting.  The written subject matter may be fiction or non-fiction including essays, opinion pieces, journals and travel writing.

Instructor Vanessa Mason has taught courses in the areas of mathematics and statistics.  She teaches test preparation courses for educators and nursing students, and is the former Assistant Director for the California High School Exit Exam.  She currently teaches at California State University, East Bay.

 Sewing expert Jennifer Serr teaches students to create a simple drawstring pouch while they learn the basics of the sewing machine, including

  • threading the machine,
  • making a bobbin,
  • sewing straight and curved lines.

Jennifer will also teach the tools, terminology & mechanics of using a paper pattern. All materials and equipment will be supplied. However, if you own a portable sewing machine, please let us know if you can bring it to learn most effectively.

This class is full. Please email Barbara Telford-Ishida at btelford-ishida@aclibrary.org to be placed on the waiting list. If there is enough interest, the class will be repeated on January 10 and wait-listed people will receive advance notice.

This workshop is for adults (18+ years). Teens will be admitted only if fewer than 12 adults enroll. Interested teens should ask to be placed on the waiting list.

Students learn how to install a standard zipper and create a zipper pouch with lining and optional wrist band with sewing expert Jennifer Serr. All materials and equipment will be supplied. However, if you own a portable sewing machine, please let us know if you can bring it to learn most effectively.

 Sewing expert Jennifer Serr teaches students to create a simple drawstring pouch while they learn the basics of the sewing machine, including

  • threading the machine,
  • making a bobbin,
  • sewing straight and curved lines.

Jennifer will also teach the tools, terminology & mechanics of using a paper pattern. All materials and equipment will be supplied. However, if you own a portable sewing machine, please let us know if you can bring it to learn most effectively.

Registration is required. Class is limited to 12 students.  To sign up, email Barbara Telford-Ishida at btelford-ishida@aclibrary.org or call (510) 284-0677 when the library is open.

This workshop is for adults (18+ years). Teens will be admitted only if fewer than 12 adults enroll. Interested teens should ask to be placed on the waiting list.
