Instructor Vanessa Mason has taught courses in the areas of mathematics and statistics.  She teaches test preparation courses for educators and nursing students, and is the former Assistant Director for the California High School Exit Exam.  She currently teaches at California State University, East Bay.

From robins to Malagasy Kingfishers, "A Fascination for Birds" tells the story of one person's growing curiosity and interest in birds, from the feathered residents in the backyard garden to inhabitants in exotic places.There are roughly 10,000 species of birds in the world, each one different, each with unique behaviors.  They fly, they're brightly colored, they migrate great distances.  What marvelous creatures!

Bob Lewis is on the board of the Golden Gate Audubon Society and the Farallon Island Foundation.  He has been a birder since the early 1970s, and has seen over 4,000 of the world's bird species.  He's fascinated with them, enjoys travel and photography, and likes to share his award-winning images with others.

Myles Boisen

Past Present Future Trio

 

Myles Boisen is one of the premier guitarists in the Bay Area. He has performed with Tom Waits, John Zorn, the Rova Saxophone Quartet, Fred Frith, Eugene Chadbourene, Splatter Trio, and the Club Foot Orchestra. Myles has contributed to a number of independent film soundtracks, plus director David Lynch’s films “Twin Peaks” and “Wild at Heart”.

Throughout the 1990s Myles was a composer and bassist in The Clubfoot Orchestra, which is generally acknowledged as the first nationals touring ensemble to revive the art of original music performances with classic silent films and cartoons. During this period the CFO collective appeared at Lincoln Center in New York City and Disney World in Orlando, Fl. Performing their scores for such vintage classics as Fritz Lang’s” Metropolis”,” Pandora’s Box”, and Buster Keaton’s “Sherlock Jr”.

 Sewing expert Jennifer Serr teaches students to create a simple drawstring pouch while they learn the basics of the sewing machine, including

  • threading the machine,
  • making a bobbin,
  • sewing straight and curved lines.

Jennifer will also teach the tools, terminology & mechanics of using a paper pattern. All materials and equipment will be supplied. However, if you own a portable sewing machine, please let us know if you can bring it to learn most effectively.

Registration is required. Class is limited to 12 students.  To sign up, email Barbara Telford-Ishida at btelford-ishida@aclibrary.org or call (510) 284-0677 when the library is open.
