RAISING CAPITAL FOR YOUR COMPANY
“HOW TO PSYCH-OUT YOUR BANKER”

If your business needs money for working capital, purchase of equipment, a new facility, inventory or other purposes, you will soon be sitting in front of a banker and making your best case for a loan. Unless you have done it before recently, you are planning your presentation, thinking about what you are going to say and what you think the banker wants to hear without knowing what that banker REALLY wants to hear.

The purpose of this first seminar in a bi-monthly series sponsored by Fremont’s Pan Pacific Bank is to give you a bankers-eye view of the loan process. In other words, you will learn how to psych-out bankers by giving them exactly what they would like to hear. If you do, they will be astounded and be in a mood to grant your request!

Your guide for this session will be Ron Barrett, Vice President of Government Guaranteed Loans for Pan Pacific Bank. He has a long history as an entrepreneur, sales consultant, and financial planner. He has founded and run a number of successful companies including Pride Electronics in San Diego that was designated, “Employer of the Year” by the President of the United States. He’s a banker that has sat on both sides of the desk as a borrower and lender and knows the secret handshakes of entrepreneurs like you.
Come spend a couple of hours with Ron, including lunch. This could be the most critical step in getting that loan you need

Investment Solutions for a Small Planet

You are invited to attend a series of investment seminars by  Gary Bladen and Toby Cooper from Merrill Lynch.

The first seminar will be on Social and Environmental Investing.

In their own words: our series of investment seminars are inspired by the 1971 book "Diet For A Small Planet", by Francis Moore Lappe,  in which she advances the thesis that our everyday choices have lasting impacts on Planet Earth. We could not agree more. In fact, our investment decisions can have an even more widespread and lasting impact on environmental and social quality. In this series, we will explore investment solutions that help in the achievement of both financial goals and benefits for the planet.

Sponsored by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and the Alameda County Library. This event is free.

MAJOR PETTIGREW'S

LAST STAND

by

Helen Simonson

The Major leads a quiet life valuing the proper things that Englishmen have lived by for generations: honor, duty, decorum, and a properly brewed cup of tea. But then his brother's death sparks an unexpected friendship with Mrs. Jasmina Ali, the Pakistani shopkeeper from the village. Drawn together by their shared love of literature and the loss of their respective spouses, the Major and Mrs. Ali soon find their friendship blossoming into something more. But village society insists on embracing him as the quintessential local and her as the permanent foreigner. Can their relationship survive the risks one takes when pursuing happiness in the face of culture and tradition?

a forgotten piece of Fremont history

Established in 1865 by John Rock and relocated to Niles in 1884, California Nursery became the largest retail nursery west of the Rockies. Trees from the nursery landscaped the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco and the 1939 World’s Fair on Treasure Island.

John Rock developed new methods of plant propagation and worked with renowned botanist, Luther Burbank. George C. Roeding purchased the nursery in 1917, and three generations of the Roeding family continued to innovate and develop California horticulture.

Joyce Blueford of the Math/Science Nucleus is organizing over 100 year’s records and artifacts from California Nursery. Hear about the discoveries she has made and learn how you can help the Math/Science Nucleus, the City of Fremont, and the CalNurCo Legacy Council turn the park into a lasting monument.

LEGENDARY LOCALS OF CASTRO VALLEY, HAYWARD, AND SAN LORENZO

Booksigning by Doris Marciel, well-known local author and historian. You may purchase your copy at the booksigning and speak with the author!

From Amazon.com:
The Hayward area is a region in California made up of a city, Hayward, and two unincorporated towns, San Lorenzo and Castro Valley. The three communities share a common history, but each has unique individual storiessuch as failed gold miner and entrepreneur William Hayward, who established a stagecoach stop and boardinghouse in 1851 that quickly attracted a diverse group of settlers and led to the establishment of the city of Hayward. Other legendary locals include Castro Valley historian Lucille Lorge, whose grandfather owned the first business in Castro Valley; English sailor Harry Rowell, who jumped ship in San Francisco Bay and was later known as the King of the Rodeo for his rodeo stock; and San Lorenzo Village developer David Bohannon, who changed the San Lorenzo farming area into a sprawling suburban center and the first planned community during World War II.

SOCIAL SECURITY AND RETIREMENT INCOME

INVESTMENT SOLUTIONS FOR A SMALL PLANET

You are invited to attend a series of investment seminars by Gary Bladen and Toby Cooper from Merrill Lynch.

This second seminar will be on Social Security and Retirement Income.

This free Seminar is sponsored by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and the Alameda County Library.
