Attend Stitch 'n Inch to learn or practice knitting with Colette Pispisa or crocheting with Betty Joseph in a fun and friendly atmosphere. You are also welcome just to socialize. Their Newark Knitting group page is on Ravelry.com.

Stitch 'n Inch meets every other Saturday. You may bring your own needles or hooks to learn, or borrow straight knitting needles and yarn. Colette is proficient at using double-pointed needles, but if you want to learn how to make hats, socks or both, you'll need to buy yourself a set.

Teen Book Chat returns for the fall/winter session. High school students (grades 9-12) are invited to join us in for this monthly book discussion group. The group runs a little differently than a traditional book group, in that each participant selects a different title to read for the month. Teens will select one paperback from the library's selection each month, read the book, and then prepare a brief discussion about the book. Participants are asked to not ruin any major plotlines/give spoilers or ruin the ending of the book. After the meeting, teens get to keep the book they've selected! 

Books will be available for pick-up at the library (for the September meeting) beginning August 4th.

Bring and fix your broken small electronics, appliances, and toys (or at least learn more about them) with the help of fixit coaches. A textile/clothing coach will also be available. We provide the workspace, tools, and coaches. This is an all-age do-it-together (D.I.T) repair event.

Registration is required. Sign up at the Information Desk, call (510) 284-0677 during library open hours, or email Barbara at btelford-ishida@aclibrary.org. Please mention what item(s) you hope to fix or let us know you want to be a coach and what your skills are.

We also need coaches! Jacks & Jills of all trades, tinkerers, and seamsters are invited to become fixit coaches; all you need is curiosity and a willingness to encourage & help others open up their broken stuff and try to fix it. Bringing some tools would also help. The library has sewing machines and supplies.

Teens are invited to partake in a free New SAT practice test administered by The Princeton Review at the Castro Valley Library, Saturday, Setember 24th from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.

In preparation for what might be the most important test of your life, this 4.5 hour workshop will offer teens the opportunity to warm and find out how you would score on the new test.  Get realistic practice and try your hand at the types of questions you'll face on the actual exam.  You will also receive a personalized score report pinpointing your strengths and weaknesses.
