misc_none 7:00 PM  -  9:00 PM Girl Rising: a Community Screening Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend

A story can inspire. A story can deliver powerful truths. A story can change lives. The documentary film, "Girl Rising," tells nine of those stories, about girls from developing countries overcoming enormous obstacles, such as gender inequality and human trafficking, to achieve an education. Directed by Academy Award nominated Director, Richard E. Robbins and narrated by Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Selena Gomez, among others, this film is an inspiring and moving tribute to the resilience and perserverence of these girls and the power of education to transform lives.

This film showing is hosted by the Room to Read Club at Dublin High School. "Room to Read" is a non-profit organization that promotes literacy worldwide. Funding is provided by a City of Dublin Youth Mini-Grant Award, and the Friends of the Dublin Library. For more information on the film, check out http://girlrising.com/.

misc_new_blue 4:00 PM  -  5:00 PM Teen Summer Internship Orientation Meeting Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend

The Dublin Library is looking for motivated teens that are interested in volunteer opportunities this summer. Teens in 10th, 11th or 12th grades are invited to attend an orientation meeting for summer programs; please be aware that you must be able to commit to a weekly schedule. Vacations and absences cannot be accomodated. Interested teens must like working with people as all of these positions require working directly with children and adults.  Potential volunteers must attend this meeting in order to apply for an intership position (these are unpaid volunteer interships). Dublin residents will be given preference, but are not guaranteed a position. Selected teens will be notified the week of June 9th.

There are three programs that require teen assistance:

  • Summer Program Crew (4 positions available and an 18 hour commitment). Tuesdays, June 17th - August 12th from 12:30-2:30 pm. Teens help pass out tickets, help with crowd control and program preparation.
  • Preschool Program Crew (4 positions available and an 8 hour commitment). Wednesdays, June 25th - July 16th, 10:30-12:30. Teens help pass out tickets, help with crowd control and program preparation.
  • Hear All About It! Program Crew (2 positions available and a 5 hour commitment). Wednesdays, July 2 - July 30th, 6:30-7:30 pm. Teens help with crowd control, program preparation and help children complete craft projects.
