The Dublin Library is hosting a series of art classes for teens (ages 13-19 years old) during the summer months. Please call or stop by the library to register for any or all of these events up to one month in advance of the program date! For questions about any of the programs, please contact Mary Ayers-Hughes at mcayers@aclibrary.org

July 9th: Scrapbooking. Each participant should bring in 4-5 photos to use on a layout that will be completed in class. Each participant will receive sketches for other layouts that can be completed at home. All other supplies will be provided.

July 16th:  Book Making. Each participant will make their own unique book, perfect for adding photos, using as an art journal, diary or whatever you desire. All supplies will be provided during the class.

July 23rd: Sock Monster Mania with Angie Wilson. In this class we will be sewing stuffed monsters, animals, and other fantastic friends. We will use socks, knit gloves, buttons, and scrap fabrics to fashion our crazy creatures, drawing inspiration from illustrated books, anime, and our wide imaginations.  http://www.angiewilson.org

July 30th: Steampunk Art. Each participant will get to design their own dirigible and work on a second art piece in the steampunk style. All supplies will be provided.

August 6th: Open Studio for Pictures +. If you are planning to design a book for the Pictures + program, drop in to our open studio. There will be all kinds of art supplies available to use in designing your book. *No registration required for this program only.*

August 13th: Henna Tattoos. Rachel-Anne Palacios of Devika’s Palacio (devikaspalacio.ning.com) will talk about mehndi, draw one design per participant and will provide henna cones and patterns to each participant to try on their own. This program is a special mother/daughter event. Please note that this class is shorter, running from 1-2:30 pm.

If you like working with children, enjoy reading, and want to make a difference to the community, we have an excellent opportunity for you!

Centerville Library is currently looking for teen volunteers interested in being a reading buddy for our Read with Me program.  Help a child learn to read and earn community service hours too. The Read with Me program will run from October through May. For more details ask at the Information Desk, or contact Elizabeth Gamell at the Centerville Library.

Attendees will get free ice cream while meeting teens from the Tri-Valley area and learning about TAG and the projects it puts on throughout the year. TAG members earn community service hours for their participation in events during the year.  High school students interested in taking a practice test for the ACT or SAT, have the opportunity to take a free ACT/SAT combo test through Kaplan at the Dublin Library. The practice test is free, but requires advanced registration. Registration begins July 21st; please come by the library or call to register. There is also a results night on August 25th from 6-7 pm for students that take the practice test.

Registration is Full 

Four-week math preparation classes for incoming 7th-9th graders.  Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday from July 29th to August 21st. Prepare or sharpen your math skills for the next school year. Registration is required in advance. Limit to 20 seats. Click HERE to download the registration form. 

About the Teacher:  Jonathan Lu will have graduated from Mission San Jose High School in the fall of 2014. He has five years of math teaching experience and enjoys solving contest math problems in his spare time.  High school students interested in taking a practice test for the ACT or SAT, have the opportunity to take a free ACT/SAT combo test through Kaplan at the Dublin Library. The practice test is free, but requires advanced registration. Registration begins July 21st; please come by the library or call to register. Results night is only open to teens that took the practice test on August 17th.

The Castro Valley Library is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic High School student volunteers, just a few hours a week, for its after-school Homework Assistance Center. Are you looking for community service hours or need some job experience for your resume? Sign up for hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00pm and help students tackle their homework, gain valuable experience, and have fun.
