    If you are entering grade 6-8 in September, you can volunteer in the children's room this summer! You need to attend either this orientation meeting or one Saturday May 18 from 2-3 p.m. You don't need to sign-up for the meeting, but if you can't attend either meeting, you must make arrangements with a children's librarian to schedule another training session before June 3. You may register for your summer hours beginning June 3; bring the filled-out form with your preferred work times to the Children's Desk. Work 5 hours between Monday, June 24 and Saturday, August 17, working one hour at a time and no more than one hour a week.

    Two-year-old storytime is a thirty minute program of stories, songs, fingerplays and activities selected to engage two-year-olds and enrich their pre-reading experience. Children must be two years old by the first meeting of the session. Twenty-two children are enrolled each session. Non-Acton residents are placed on the waiting list. Acton residents on the waiting list will be invited to the next session. If the Acton schools are closed or delayed due to weather, story time is canceled.

    The Preview Sale for Friends members is Friday night May 31st from 7 to 9 p.m. The Book Sale is open to the general public Saturday 9-4 p.m. Sunday June 2nd is ‘Half-Price Day’ from 2 to 4 in the afternoon. The sale will feature thousands of used hardcovers and paperbacks for children and adults; there are also a limited number of audiovisual items. The Friends of the Acton Libraries appreciate donations to the book sales. However, experience has shown that certain materials rarely sell. Consequently, they are unable to accept the following items as donations: Magazines Paperbacks with very yellowed pages or covers torn off Books that smell moldy or have been stored in a damp area Jigsaw puzzles Books with highlighted or underlined text Record albums and video and audio cassette tapes Puzzle or workbooks that have been filled in If you have questions about potential donations, please speak to the library staff. The library entrance and parking lot are reached from Woodbury Lane, which is opposite the Isaac Davis Monument on Main St., Route 27. The Friends of the Acton Libraries support Memorial Library, West Acton Citizens Library, and the elementary, junior high, and high school libraries.

Featuring: Jennifer Zobair, author of Painted Hands, a multicultural novel about successful Muslim women in Boston; Erin Cashman, author of The Exceptionals, a supernatural mystery for teens ranked high on several award lists; and Ali Hosseini, author of The Lemon Grove, which tells an intense and global story of love, redemption, and the courage to survive.     The Preview Sale for Friends members is Friday night October 18th from 7 to 9 p.m. The Book Sale is open to the general public Saturday 9-4 p.m. Sunday October 20th is ‘Half-Price Day’ from 2 to 3:30 in the afternoon. The sale will feature thousands of used hardcovers and paperbacks for children and adults; there are also a limited number of audiovisual items. The Friends of the Acton Libraries appreciate donations to the book sales. However, experience has shown that certain materials rarely sell. Consequently, they are unable to accept the following items as donations: Magazines Paperbacks with very yellowed pages or covers torn off Books that smell moldy or have been stored in a damp area Jigsaw puzzles Books with highlighted or underlined text Record albums and video and audio cassette tapes Puzzle or workbooks that have been filled in If you have questions about potential donations, please speak to the library staff. The library entrance and parking lot are reached from Woodbury Lane, which is opposite the Isaac Davis Monument on Main St., Route 27. The Friends of the Acton Libraries support Memorial Library, West Acton Citizens Library, and the elementary, junior high, and high school libraries.
