Denise will be teaching us how to make beautiful Tree of Life pendants. Once you make these, you will see a great use for all the beads and chips you have in your inventory!  Denise has generously offered to supply the “frame” in copper for everyone to be able to jump right in and create their tree.  With time leftover, she'll show everyone how to make their own frame. The supplies are really minimal and this works up fairly quickly and every single one looks amazing!

 Supplies:
 1. Copper colored wire 24 or 26 gauge (3 feet will make one tree easily)
(You can use any colored wire, but copper is the easiest to work with and the frames will be copper.)

2. Rocks, stone, chips for the leaves. Any color works, small stones work best (about 3-4 mm). You can use crystals or round beads too! If you can’t decide, get a package of 30—4mm bicone swarovski beads.

Tools: (bring your own, otherwise share library set)
 * Needle nose pliers, small jewelry type are best
 * Wire cutter

misc_none 6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Foodie Group - South Vietnamese Cooking Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Welcome to an exciting presentation by Wayne and Hong Nguyen! South Vietnamese dishes are influenced by the cooking styles of Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia and rely heavily on the liberal use of flavorful herbs and sweeter flavors.

Wayne and Hong Ngyen have named their restaurant Hai Lua (Farmer Guy), a popular Vietnamese character evoking images of a hard working rice farmer. Their most popular dish is Savory Pancakes, a delicacy made with rice flour, coconut milk and filled with crumbled mung bean paste with shrimp and served with vegetables and a sweet dipping sauce.  Wayne and Hong also own Lucky Market in Randolph which is a great store to go to for Asian foodstuffs.

Free and open to all who want to travel to South Vietnam for one magical evening

In Knitting Yarns, the magic of knitting is captured in black and white through tales of tragedy, acceptance, and love. From authors such as Anne LeClaire, Elissa Schapell, Barabara Kingsolver, Andre Dubus III, Sue Grafton, Anita Shreve, and even Ann Hood herself, Knitting Yarns is a testament to the power of craft to sustain us through human survival and triumph alike.

Ann Hood is the author of The Obituary Writer and bestsellers such as The Knitting Circle, The Red Thread, and Comfort: A Journey Through Grief, a New York Times Editor's Choice. She’s received a Best American Spiritual Writing Award, a Best American Food Writing Award, a Best American Travel Writing Award, the Paul Bowles Prize for Short Fiction, and two Pushcart Prizes. She became an avid knitter in 2002 to help get through the grief of losing her daughter, Grace. The Adventures of Sir Lancelot the Great by Gerald Morris

Many years ago, the storytellers say, the great King Arthur brought justice to England with the help of his gallant Knights of the Round Table. Of these worthy knights, there was never one so fearless, so chivalrous, so honorable, so…shiny as the dashing Sir Lancelot, who was quite good at defending the helpless and protecting the weak, just as long as he’d had his afternoon nap.

The Sixty-Eight Rooms (Sixty-Eight Rooms Adventure Series #1)Fans of magic, mystery, and adventure will love the first exciting Sixty-Eight Rooms Adventure—the perfect next step for kids who loved the Magic Tree House series, and readers who love Chasing Vermeer, The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, and Wonderstruck!  Housed in the deep inside the Chicago Art Institute, the Thorne Rooms are a collection of 68 exquisitely crafted miniature rooms. Each room is set in a different historic period, and every detail is perfect. Some might even say, the rooms are magic. Imagine—what if on a field trip, you discovered a key that allowed you to shrink so that you could sneak inside and explore the rooms' secrets? What if you discovered that others had done so before you? And that someone had left something important behind?

Exploring the Challenges & Potential of Relocalizing Food & Agriculture

The Ames Free Library Foodie Group is excited to present a special program featuring well-known author, Ben Hewitt, most widely known for The Town That Food Saved.

As we are getting back to farming using organic and sustainable methods and developing Farmer's Markets utilizing local farms in Easton, we can appreciate the message and information that Ben will impart.

Since 1977, Ben has lived on a 40 acre farm in Cabot, Vermont.  He runs a small-scale diversified hill farm with his wife, Penny, and their two sons, Finley and Rye.  their focus is producing nutrient dense foods from the vibrant, mineralized soils for themselves and the immediate community.  Ben's works include The Town That Food Saved: How One Community Found Vitality in Local Food, Making Supper Safe: One Man's Quest to Learn the Truth About Food Safety, and Saved: How I Quit Worrying About Money and Became the Richest Man in the World.

This program is handicapped accessible, FREE and open to the public.  Reservations are required.
