Through guided writing prompts, close readings, and class discussion, we’ll investigate erasure, imitation, haibuns, pantoums, ghazals, and other forms to expand our potential for crafting new and original forms. 2024 Long Island Reads Book Discussion
5:00 PM - 5:50 PM

This program will take place in the community room.

2024's Long Island Reads Book is....

"Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World" by Christian Cooper.

Cooper tells the story of his extraordinary life leading up to the now-infamous incident in Central Park and shows how a life spent looking up at the birds prepared him, in the most uncanny of ways, to be a gay, Black man in America today. From sharpened senses that work just as well at a protest as in a park to what a bird like the Common Grackle can teach us about self-acceptance, "Better Living Through Birding" exults in the pleasures of a life lived in pursuit of the natural world and invites you to discover them yourself.

Stop by the circulation desk to pick-up a copy to keep, while supplies last, beginning March 1st. A limited supply of large print copies are available as well.

Please register to receive reminders about the book discussion.

Author Talk with Shelby Raebeck
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

This program will take place in our Community Room.

Local author, Shelby Raebeck, will discuss his lastest novel, "East Hampton Blue."

Shelby Raebeck grew up on Long Island’s East End in Amagansett and now lives in neighboring Springs. His newly released East Hampton
Blue is the third book of his East End Trilogy, joining the critically acclaimed novel,  "Amagansett ’84", and story collection, "Louse Point: Stories from the East End". Raebeck is also author of the one-person play, "Fremont’s Farewell". His next novel, "Homer’s Dream", a tragi-comic Gen-Z odyssey, is due out in the fall of ’24.

"East Hampton Blue" is about the dark cloud of excess that threatens to consume Long Island’s East End, and about the patchwork of characters who live beneath it—those who adapt, finding new paths amidst the changing landscape, and those who refuse to.

Registration is required.
