Dolly Webb is returning to teach her new sewing series. Not so long ago in the “Sewing Times World,” ladies made little sewing keepsakes for themselves or to give as remembrances. Money was tight, so these inexpensively made treasures that held pins, scissors, thread and other sewing items were kept in a sewing basket. Make these treasures for yourself or for a gift.

November 6 ON SUCH A FULL SEA by Chang-Rae Lee

"From the beloved award-winning author of Native Speaker and The Surrendered, a highly provocative, deeply affecting story of one woman's legendary quest in a shocking, future America. On Such a Full Sea takes Chang-rae Lee's elegance of prose, his masterly storytelling, and his long-standing interests in identity, culture, work, and love, and lifts them to a new plane. Stepping from the realistic and historical territories of his previous work, Lee brings us into a world created from scratch. Against a vividly imagined future America, Lee tells a stunning, surprising, and riveting story that will change the way readers think about the world they live in. In a future, long-declining America, society is strictly stratified by class. Long-abandoned urban neighborhoods have been repurposed as highwalled, self-contained labor colonies. And the members of the labor class-descendants of those brought over en masse many years earlier from environmentally ruined provincial China-find purpose and identity in their work to provide pristine produce and fish to the small, elite, satellite charter villages that ring the labor settlement. In this world lives Fan, a female fish-tank diver, who leaves her home in the B-Mor settlement (once known as Baltimore), when the man she loves mysteriously disappears. Fan's journey to find him takes her out of the safety of B-Mor, through the anarchic Open Counties, where crime is rampant with scant governmental oversight, and to a faraway charter village, in a quest that will soon become legend to those she left behind"-- Provided by publisher.

THE HUSBAND'S SECRET by Liane Moriarty

The Husband's Secret

Do you like to talk about the books you enjoy reading with others?  Then join us the second Monday of each month at 2 pm for reader-to-reader book discussions, informal fun, and sharing with fellow fiction lovers.

In this month's selection, Cecilia is leading the perfect suburban life. She's the envy of other school mothers, and she managed to marry one of the handsome Fitzpatrick boys. While her husband is away on a business trip, Cecilia accidentally finds a note to be opened in the event of his death. His alarmed reaction to her discovery and immediate early return from his trip pique Cecilia's curiosity, and she opens the letter. A secret from her husband's past is about to bring her perfectly sculpted world crumbling down. Cecilia struggles to live her life as she did before the secret burdened her marriage. A simple confession of the truth can simultaneously shatter many different worlds. The secret creates a ripple effect in Cecilia's community, involving more and more people and families. Moriarty examines the ease with which darkness can spread into relationships. Weaving stories from multiple perspectives keeps this one interesting all while leaving the reader wondering what will happen next.

No registration required.  Refreshments will be served.  Come meet with other adults who like to read and discuss lighter fiction

Sewing Series with Dolly Webb

Dolly Webb is returning to teach her new sewing series. Not so long ago in the “Sewing Times World,” ladies made little sewing keepsakes for themselves or to give as remembrances. Money was tight, so these inexpensively made treasures that held pins, scissors, thread and other sewing items were kept in a sewing basket. Make these treasures for yourself or for a gift.

November 19 THE HIT by David Baldacci

From David Baldacci--#1 bestselling author and one of the world's most popular, widely read storytellers--comes the most thrilling novel of the year. THE HIT Will Robie is a master of killing. A highly skilled assassin, Robie is the man the U.S. government calls on to eliminate the worst of the worst-enemies of the state, monsters committed to harming untold numbers of innocent victims. No one else can match Robie's talents as a hitman...no one, except Jessica Reel. A fellow assassin, equally professional and dangerous, Reel is every bit as lethal as Robie. And now, she's gone rogue, turning her gun sights on other members of their agency. To stop one of their own, the government looks again to Will Robie. His mission: bring in Reel, dead or alive. Only a killer can catch another killer, they tell him. But as Robie pursues Reel, he quickly finds that there is more to her betrayal than meets the eye. Her attacks on the agency conceal a larger threat, a threat that could send shockwaves through the U.S. government and around the world.

To register, please call 330-376-2927 or stop in at the Highland Square Branch Library to visit us.
