misc_none 2:00 PM  -  3:30 PM Art Series: Land, People, City Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Rena Tobey is back to lead a new art series: Land—People—City

When you think of America, these are the qualities you may think of first. Come explore how American identity has been shaped by images of the land, people, and city with art historian Rena Tobey. In this interactive series of talks, we’ll dig beyond the surface layers that create a streamlined, but simplistic notion of the American character. We’ll take a slow look at paintings that tell complex, often coded stories, reflecting both the challenges and greatness of our country.

Land: 1/15

People: 2/12

City: 3/26

Snow date: 4/9. In the event of a snow date, the entire series will move forward by one date.

Rena Tobey bio
Rena Tobey teaches, researches, and writes about American art history.  She also conducts interactive tours of museum collections, presents talks on American art, and writes for ConnecticutHistory.org.  Just for fun, she has created Artventures! Don't do this. Don't do that. Kids hear that all the time. So we decided it was OUR turn to make the rules.

Our fifth grade class at Thompson Brook School in Avon, wrote and published a book called, Just Don't Do It: 1,665 Things You Should Never Do. It is half guidebook, half joke book, and all fun book! It makes kids laugh, and we want to share that with you all at the Avon Free Public Library on Sunday, January 29, 2017, from 2 – 3 pm.

Please join some published student authors from Thompson Brook School as they sign copies of their book and discuss how they're donating hundreds of copies to local children's hospitals.

In the event of a snow date, the entire series will move forward by one date.

misc_none 2:00 PM  -  3:30 PM Art Series: Land, People, City Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
