With historian Richard Daley. This hour lecture begins with a short synopsis of the backdrop of the Civil War leading into an examination of the plot to kidnap Lincoln and how that plot developed into a plot to assassinate. Both Lincoln and Booth's movements during the day of the assassination are meticulously chronicled using a simultaneous timeline. And then, by utilizing photographs of the period, modern photographs and video, the assassination is recounted in stunning detail. The escape and capture of Booth is fully described with photographs and video footage of the locations where he hid and the site where he was killed. The lecture concludes with a vivid description of the trial and execution of the conspirators to the assassination: Mary Surratt, Lewis Powell, David Herold and George Atzerodt.

With Jane Sciacca of the Wayland Historical Society

Lydia Maria Child was born in Medford, MA in 1802 and married David Lee Child, originally of West Boylston, in 1828. Maria, as she preferred to be called, became known as an abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and Indian rights advocate. Nowadays, she may be most familiar to us as the author of “Over the River and Through the Woods.” At David’s death in 1874, the Town of West Boylston received a bequest of $250.00 leading to the founding of the town’s first public library. Discover a little-known part of West Boylston’s history!

With actor Stephen Collins

An Evening of Frost is a unique performance that begins with a short biographical introduction into the poet's life.  Stephen Collins will “resurrect” the famous poet and recite a selection of his poems (a list will be provided at signup). The performance closes with a dramatic reading of Frost's masterful use of blank prose in the hauntingly memorable "The Death of the Hired Man".
