Loree Griffin Burns and Ellen Harasimowicz, the local author-photographer team behind the award-winning children’s books The Hive Detectives and Citizen Scientists, return to celebrate the release of their latest adventure. Set right here in Worcester County, their new book introduces readers of all ages to the invasive Asian long-horned beetle and to the men, women, children, even dogs! – trying to eradicate it from Massachusetts. Copies of Beetle Busters and their other books will be available for purchase and proceeds of this event will benefit our Library

The Great New England Hurricane, one of the most destructive storms in American history, caused more than six hundred deaths and $400 million in property damage. What made this storm unique? In this illustrated lecture by Historic New England Site Manager, Shira Gladstone, learn about the impact and aftermath of the Hurricane of 1938 in southern New England.

From April to September of 2013, Wendy Johnston backpacked the entire 2,700 mile-long Pacific Crest Trail from the US/Mexican Border to the US/Canadian border through California, Oregon, and Washington.  Join Wendy for a slideshow of photos taken along her hike, as well as a short talk focusing on the reasons that she hikes long trails and the lessons that she learned during her 5 months on the PCT. A question and answer session will follow. It is Wendy’s hope that you will leave inspired and encouraged to follow your own dreams!
