Artist Anna Petranich makes her home in San Rafael. She studied at the Pratt Institute in New York, and locally at the College of Marin. She is a member of the Marin Society of Artists. Her artist's statement: "The process of creating is always exciting and rewarding and produces in me a sense of awe. I make a few quick studies of the individual until I have a sense of their uniqueness. When I achieve that, I start with swift strokes to capture the form and then develop it with layer on layer of soft and hard pastels until the desired image is achieved. My goal in painting landscapes and florals is similar to portraits - to capture the moment."

What began in 1959 as an effort to save the small former mission church of St Raphael’s parish, has in 50 years developed into one of the few private historical societies to own and maintain landmark buildings. Although Landmarks started out with just a few determined volunteers, over the years a great number of citizens from the Belvedere and Tiburon communities have donated time, ideas, energy and money to help the organization grow and prosper.

This exhibit, sponsored by the Heritage & Arts Committee, celebrates both historic preservation and our lasting connection to the community. Exhibited in the Town Hall Lobby are fine art representations from our History Collections of three of the Landmarks properties, and in the Council Chambers we have assembled collages showcasing 50 years of events and activities – highlighting many of the people who have given and continue to give so much, keeping the Landmarks Society a vital part of the community.

Belvedere native Zachary Ostroff, began studying piano at five, followed by guitar and drums, but found his musical voice with the bass. An accomplished musician at just 16 years old, Zach has performed at some of the most prominent Bay Area venues such as Yoshi's Oakland and San Francisco, the Fillmore, and Slim's along side numerous Bay Area jazz musicians. The quartet will be playing the century-old art form known as "jazz," featuring some of the best high school jazz musicians in the Bay.
