Reception: Tuesday, February 9, 6-8pm The artist describes herself - "A lifelong artist from an artistic family, I have studied with renowned watercolorists Rex Brandt, Frank Webb, and Milford Zornes, but learned much of what I know about painting and design from my dad, Ronald E. Bean (1907-1999), a commercial artist in Chicago and a watercolorist on the Monterey Peninsula. I majored in Art at the University of Iowa and have taken instruction locally in Northern California in figure drawing, painting, caricature and cartooning, and graphic design." My career as a graphic designer introduced me to the wonders of digital imaging. In 2002 I temporarily set aside my watercolor paints and brushes and took up digital photography. About her art: "These images begin as digital photographs of motifs, structures, and highlights and shadows that appeal to me in their shapes, composition, and dynamic movement. Using image manipulation software, I combine two or more similar shots, reducing, removing, and/or repeating elements and flattening areas to create a new design. The frosting on the cake is adjusting the hues and saturation. I love big, bright, saturated colors almost more than anything. I keep working on a picture until I feel satisfied; I can't quantify it more than that. I enjoy art that draws me in with color and composition, and keeps me interested with curious details and movement, an intriguing bit of something that looks familiar . . . or does it?" 		Cathy Ann Taylor, founder of a Sausalito based adventure company, Cattara, has trekked and climbed all over the world to raise money and awareness for breast cancer prevention for the San Francisco - based Breast Cancer Fund, (she alone has raised over $350,000 and her new Sacred Treks program has raised nearly $160,000!) She has participated in ten Climb Against the Odds expeditions, including Mount McKinley, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Fuji, Mount Shasta, and Mount Rainier. She has run Sacred Treks to Bhutan, Mont Blanc, and will go to Peru this spring. She has also reached the summit of Ama Dablam (22,500') in Nepal and Argentina's Aconcagua (22,834'), the highest peak in South America. Her 20 plus years of travel experience to different parts of the globe bring a very unique and interesting perspective. 		Want to help protect those special plant species native to the Tiburon peninsula that are severely threatened by invasive weeds? Join a new group of volunteers, the Tiburon "Weed Whackers." The "Weed Whackers" will meet for the first time on Tuesday, February 2, and again on Saturday, February 13 for two hours. They will continue to meet during the winter months, while the soil is damp and it is easier to remove the weeds. Local botanist and Tiburon resident Eva Buxton will give an account of the rare plants the first time that the group meets, and describe the threats to them from non-native species, and what to do to protect these special species and their habitat. Once volunteers are familiar with the weeds to remove and where to do it, they can work on their own time. But the group will still meet on the designated days, at least for a while. To borrow the Marin County "Broom Busters" slogan: "Come when you can; leave when you must!" Time to Meet: Every other Tuesday and Saturday of the month, between 10 a.m. and Noon, starting Tuesday, February 2 and Saturday, February 13. Equipment to bring: Waterproof pad to sit on; gloves; pick axe or pulaski (small trowel); sturdy shoes/boots; layered clothing; plenty of water. Broom wrenches will be provided. Where to meet: At the junction of Gilmartin Drive and the fire road that leads to the "Hippie Tree", 0.35 mile from Tiburon Boulevard, just before Gilmartin's sharp turn to the right. 	12:00 PM	Art Auction for Haitian Relief

		The Town of Tiburon is hosting an art auction for Haitian earthquake relief on Sunday, February 21, at Town Hall. Artwork will be on exhibit, with silent auction bidding, from Noon until 4:30 p.m. The live auction begins at 5 p.m. The auctioneer is the celebrated exhibition designer and curator, Ted Cohen. Included are contemporary and traditional paintings and sculpture, fine crafts by Bay Area artists, folk and ethnic art and a selection of vintage wines. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to The American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Partners in Health, and UNICEF. These organizations are involved directly with the current Haitian emergency, as well as the massive reconstruction necessary in the future. The Tiburon Fire Department is donating food and will host a barbeque in the parking lot. Oakville Ranch Vineyards has generously donated the wine for the event. Town of Tiburon

		Docent Kay Payne and local residents Faith and Stephen Brown will do a PowerPoint presentation about the exhibition of Amish quilts from the Brown collection at the deYoung Museum November 2009 - June 2010. This exhibition features approximately 48 full-size and crib quilts dating from the 1880s to the 1940s. Quilts made by girls and women of various Amish communities in Pennsylvania and the Midwest are visual distillations of their way of life. The Amish faith embodies the principles of simplicity, humility, discipline, and community, but their quilts are anything but humble. Using a rich color palette and bold patterns, these quilts are truly a unique contribution to American textile history. The quilts highlight the beauty and complexity of the abstract patterns. In a multi-sensory experience, you can hear her art flow through your body as you see and feel its authentic Eastern European cadence and culture. As musician and painter, Marcu expresses with paint what she hears in her heart. Marcu's students explore their own creative process through self-awareness and insight. 		It began with a dog kennel, an aging ambulance and a telephone. The year was 1907. The visionary was San Anselmo resident Ethel Tompkins and a group of concerned citizens who wanted to do something about lost and abused animals. Her revolutionary ideas laid the groundwork for what would become one of the most progressive and influential humane societies in the United States - The Marin Humane Society. In the last century, the Society has grown beyond any original expectations. It has flourished with a combination of an educated and concerned community and dedicated staff and volunteers. 		In this demonstration lecture, Librarian Abbot Chambers will introduce two new downloadable audio book collections for iPod: MyiLibrary and the Northern California Digital Library MP3 collection. Topics covered will include searching and browsing, holds and check outs, downloading titles to your home computer, and copying files to an iPod. Abbot will be demonstrating using a Mac computer and iPod, but the process is almost identical for those using a Windows PC and iPod. Please note that this is not a hands-on workshop.
