Come to Ring Mountain to help restore habitat on this special volunteer day. Today we will be following up on the annual “Ring Mountain Thistle Pull”. We will protect the endangered Tiburon Mariposa Lily by finding and removing invasive tocolote and yellow star thistles. These invasive plants were once a thriving population on the rise, but this annual removal effort is yielding positive results. We have not found yellow star thistle in several years and tocolote star thistle is now on the decline. We will also have the opportunity to listen to interpretive talks, and find out what’s in store for the future of this incredible preserve! Join us to become part of this habitat restoration success story.
This is a light, moderately strenuous activity and is suitable for volunteers of all ages. Dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water. Heavy rain may cancel. If questionable weather, call (415) 473-3778 after 7am on the morning of the event to hear a recorded message if cancelled. Questions: Contact Ring Mountain Stewardship Coordinator Sam Abercrombie at (415) 473-2128 or SAbercrombie@marincounty.org.
Meet at the gate at the end of Taylor Rd in Tiburon. DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101 in Corte Madera, take exit 449A for Tamalpais Dr east. Go straight onto San Clemente, which merges into Paradise Dr after 0.4 mile. Follow Paradise Dr approximately 1.7 miles, turn right onto Taylor Rd, and follow to end (dead end).
