book cover for Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini

This morning's selection is Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini.

New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Chiaverini’s compelling historical novel unveils the private lives of Abraham and Mary Lincoln through the perspective of the First Lady’s most trusted confidante and friend, her dressmaker, Elizabeth Keckley.

In a life that spanned nearly a century and witnessed some of the most momentous events in American history, Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was born a slave. A gifted seamstress, she earned her freedom by the skill of her needle, and won the friendship of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln by her devotion. This novel illuminates the extraordinary relationship the two women shared, beginning in the hallowed halls of the White House during the trials of the Civil War and enduring almost, but not quite, to the end of Mrs. Lincoln’s days.

February's Topic is:  Downloadable Digital Media

Based on participants' interest and feedback, we will cover one or two of a variety of special topics or projects during each class.  Each month's topic will be announced at least one month in advance.  Special topics or projects may include: iCloud, Photos, Camera, Mail, Messaging, Contacts, Facetime, Safari, Maps, News, Downloadable Digital Media, and more.

We strongly encourage participants to bring your own iPad to class, as we will emphasize a hands-on approach.  iPhone users are also invited to participate, as there are many similarities between iPad and iPhone.  The class will focus on iOS version 9, but other versions are welcome.

Please be sure to bring your device, fully charged, with your Apple ID and password for your own use.

Prerequisite: Participants should have a basic understanding and some practice in using iPad.  This may be fulfilled by taking the Library's iPad Basics class.

The iPad Basics class will repeat on the first Monday of January, May, and September.  iPad Special Topics will be offered throughout the year on the first Monday of all other months.

three ipads

June's Topic is:  Keeping Up With Friends, Family and the World

Registration required and limited to 9.
