To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the beginning of World War I, learn about this pivotal point in history in a new way. Join us for a presentation by one of our most popular presenters, Dr.Gerard Brooker! Dr. Brooker is a world traveler and humanitarian who always opens our eyes to another view. In this talk, he'll give us background information on the causes of the war, the battles that were fought, and the heroism of the soldiers. He'll also share photos of his recent World War I tour. A question and answer session will provide an opportunity to delve more deeply into the topic.

This program is suitable for adults and high school students.

***This workshop is for children ages 5-12.***

Professional floral designers from Alice's Flower Shop will show us tricks of the trade and lend a helping hand if you like. All supplies will be provided--so everyone will go home with their own complete arrangement!

Note: All children ages 11 and under must be accompanied and adequately supervised by a responsible person (e.g., an adult or mature adolescent) who will remain in the Library during the program.

Please join us for our first-ever coffeehouse-style memoir forum and open mic night!

Gail Hall Howard, a published memoirist and writing teacher, will facilitate the Library’s first memoir forum. Enjoy a lively discussion of the joys and challenges of memoir writing, listen to two published memoirists, and perhaps share your own memoir during the open mic session. The open mic session is limited to 5 readers for 7-minute spots. Selections read aloud must be suitable for all ages.

Delicious regular and decaf coffee, courtesy of MOLTEN JAVA, will be served. 

For adults. Registration is required and limited to 30 attendees.

Come explore some of the most helpful apps that Google offers.  This class will introduce students to storing and backing up their files in Google Drive, finding their way around and viewing the world in a new way with Google Maps, and keeping their personal and professional life scheduled in Google Calendar.  These apps are all free to use and are available for both desktop and mobile devices.  This class will introduce you to the desktop version of each app.

Kid's Catalog, Searchasaurus, and Learning Express, along with other databases will be included in the demonstrations. These resources provide information for students to assist them with homework and other school assignments.

What do you get when you bring dogs, children, and books together? You get happy kids who want to practice reading ro the library's service dog, Provolone (Provy for short). Each child will be able to read to Provy for 15 minutes during each session.

Registration required. Please call (203-794-8756, Ex. 5) or visit the Children's Services Desk to register and choose a time slot to read to Provolone. Parents/caregivers may not stay with the children but must remain in the Library during the reading session.

Teen Improv: Have you ever had an interest in becoming a comedian?  Much like the popular television show "Whose Line is it Anyway?", students will learn how to think on their feet and nail their comedic timing.  The teaching artist will help students find their improv creativity by developing non-scripted scenes with funny and interesting characters.  At the conclusion of the session students will host, act and direct their own improv show.  For teens Grades 6-12.  Registration required.
