For families. Folksinger and storyteller Tim Van Egmond will present a free family program for ages 4 and up. As a special celebration for the library's Summer Reading Program, Van Egmond's performance "The Wonder Underground" will weave together stories and songs about digging, gardening, and subterranean adventures. Find out how Kantchil the Mouse Deer uses her wits to get out of a deep hole in “Kantchil Waits For the World To End,” how a farmer discovers huge treasure chest in a cave but hears a voice telling him he must take “Todo O Nada (All Or Nothing),” what happens when yams in Ghana tell a farmer digging them up to leave them alone in “Talk,” and more! Van Egmond will accompany himself on a variety of traditional instruments, including mountain dulcimer, mouth bow, conga drum, and limberjack (a dancing wooden puppet that taps out a rhythm on a paddleboard).
A resident of Montague MA, Van Egmond has been captivating audiences throughout the country since 1978, appearing at hundreds of schools, libraries, and community centers, and on television and radio. He has been selected for the New England States Touring Program, and the New Hampshire State Library's "Kids, Books, and the Arts" Project. Renowned author and storyteller Jane Yolen has said of him, "Tim is a triple treat. He can sing, he can play a variety of wonderful instruments, and he can tell whopping good tales!"
Please register. Registration begins on June 13.
