misc_none 2017 Cartwheel Book Awards Committee Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
    Contact: Mr. Steve   508-966-1660   sfowler@cwmars.org

What are the Cartwheel Book Awards? We like to consider them the Bellingham Library Kids’ Choice Awards for chapter books. We are looking for kids who love to read who would be interested in becoming committee members.

Who can be a committee member? Anybody ages 9-12 can be a committee member but we are really looking for boys and girls who LOVE reading. Since all of the books we nominate will be appropriate for kids ages 9-12, committee members should be in that age range for at least part of the year. Committee members can reside in any town. Also, we choose books from a variety of genres (mystery, fantasy, adventure, etc.) and expect that our committee members are willing to give every book a try – even if they are “sure” they won’t like it! You might be surprised…

What are committee members supposed to do? Committee members will be asked to read ten new books during 2016. That comes to an average of one book per month. All titles are to be determined and all committee members will read the same ten titles. At the end of 2016, committee members will be given a voting ballot where they will vote for their choices in six categories such as Favorite Book, Best Ending and Favorite Book Cover. Then in early 2017, committee members will come together for an awesome awards night!

Interested? Register now! Every time a new book nomination is selected, you will be notified. You can read the books whenever you have time. Voting will take place in December.

        There are many spaces available.

Join us for an introduction to 3D Printing with our Cube 3D Printer and Sense Scanner.  Learn about 3D Printing and see our printer (and NEW Sense Scanner) in action. Come and see the library's new Cube 3D Printer in action and learn about its basic operation. This workshop will cover an introduction to 3D printing and a demonstration to the group about the printer operation instructions. This class is limited to 8 people, high school age and above.

This class will not cover designing a 3D object to print. It will focus on the details of printing predesigned objects and objects that can be scanned with our new 3D Sense Scanner. People interested in designing their own objects for printing need to provide .stl files formatted for PLA printing. The library does have software available for designing these files and we hope to offer training sessions on its use at sometime in the future

At Bellingham High School Auditorium. For families. Kevin O'Keefe's One-Man Circus in-a-Suitcase is an enthralling, whimsical celebration of the imagination. From his suitcase an entire circus emerges: tent, band, lights, the boisterous ringmaster Steve Fitzpatrick, the officious Mervin Merkle, the incredible Bumbilini Family, the Magician to the Stars Clyde Zerbini, and Keefer–an innocent trying to runaway and join the circus. However, the most important performers emerge from the audience. Each performance becomes a dialogue between the characters and the audience–a light-hearted collaboration. More information: http://circusminimus.com/wp/

Join us as we enjoy this wonderful way to kickoff our 2016 Summer Reading Program. Drop by, no registration needed! Doors will open at about 6:30pm.

For pre-walking babies.

Babygarten believes that reading to babies is one of the most important components of child-rearing; it can contribute to virtually every aspect of growth and development. Most important, however, is the emotional bond that is nurtured by a reading ritual.

Babygarten is an educational curriculum for caregivers and their babies from birth to toddlerhood. The classes involve songs, rhymes and activities that help babies with language acquisition and preliteracy skills.

Please register once to attend all Babygarten classes in the summer session. The Thursday and Friday classes will be identical. Please feel free to go to either regardless of which day for which you registered.

Patrick Barron presents a non-partisan, exciting and informative presentation that not only identifies Washington D.C. politics as ineffective and out of step with most mainstream Americans, but exactly why this is the case. Pat will explain some of the causes of the extreme ideological beliefs, polarization, and gridlock coming from Washington, as well as steps regarding how to fix it. He will guide the audience, often with humorous examples, through the history of congressional committees, failed government attempts at reform, and mechanisms for fundraising such as PAC's, Leadership PAC's, and Super-PAC's.

Pat was a former Independent candidate for congress in 2010, with over 25 years of experience working within both public and private mental health settings. His experience as a trained clinician has helped to not only treat the symptoms of a problem, but to identify and understand the complex causes of the problem. Using this information, the goal becomes the straightest path to both stability and success. Please register.
