misc_none 2016 Cartwheel Book Award Committee Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
    Contact: Mr. Steve   508-966-1660   sfowler@cwmars.org

We are looking for children ages 8-12 who love reading to join our 2016 Cartwheel Book Awards Committee! Please register if interested. Registration ends on March 31.

What are the Cartwheel Book Awards? We like to consider them the Bellingham Library Kids’ Choice Awards for chapter books. We are looking for kids who love to read who would be interested in becoming committee members.

What are committee members supposed to do? Committee members will be asked to read ten new books during 2015. That comes to an average of one book per month. All titles are to be determined and all committee members will read the same ten titles. These chosen books will be published between October 2014 and September 2015. At the end of 2015, committee members will be given a voting ballot where they will vote for their choices in six categories such as Favorite Book, Best Ending and Favorite Book Cover.

Who can be a committee member? Anybody can be a committee member but we are really looking for boys and girls who LOVE reading. Since all of the books we nominate will be appropriate for kids ages 8-12, committee members must be in that age range for at least part of the year. Committee members can reside in any town. Also, we choose books from a variety of genres (mystery, fantasy, adventure, etc.) and hope that our committee members are willing to give every book a try – even if they are “sure” they won’t like it! You might be surprised…

Why should I become a committee member? One reason is that you will be able to read some of the newest and best books around. There are other perks, too, such as receiving an autographed book (details to follow in May). To top it off, committee members and their families are invited for dinner at the library during our awards ceremony in late January/early February 2016.

What is your parents’ role? When a new book is chosen for the committee to read and consider, the title is emailed to the parents. We will likely have several copies of each book at the library but we cannot promise they will be available here. Therefore, parents are expected to obtain copies of the books through our free interlibrary loan system or by other means. We can show you how to do this.

Questions? Call Mr. Steve at the library (508-966-1660) or by email at sfowler@cwmars.org. First book titles will be emailed on February 2.

    Contact: Mr. Steve   508-966-1660   sfowler@cwmars.org

Workshop put on by Sheryl White, who is of Baby Kneads (www.babykneads.com) and a certified Infant Massage Instructor. Sheryl has been working with infants and families for 15 years. Best for infants and pre-crawling babies.

What is infant massage?

Infant massage is a form of loving communication that fosters bonding and trust between parent and child. The strokes are a combination of Swedish and Indian Style massage as well as Reflexology. In our culture, the concept of infant massage may be relatively new but it has been very popular for centuries in other parts of the world.

Why massage your baby?

  • Body Awareness
  • Stimulation
  • Helps to relieve the discomfort associated with gas and colic
  • Promotes the strengthening of the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems
  • Helps to establish that special bond between parent and baby by focusing on important elements such as eye to eye and skin to skin contact
  • Helps baby to have a more restful sleep
  • Increases parents confidence and sensitivity to baby's cues
  • Relaxes and releases tension

Classes are January 13 and February 10. Please register for either or both.

This workshop will cover an introduction to 3D printing and a demonstration to the group about the printer operation instructions. This class is limited to 8 people, high school age and above.

This class will not cover designing a 3D object to print. It will focus on the details of printing predesigned objects and objects that can be scanned with our new 3D Sense Scanner. People interested in designing their own objects for printing need to provide .stl files formatted for PLA printing. The library does have software available for designing these files and we hope to offer training sessions on its use at sometime in the future

Janine's talk will be one of hope and understanding that lies waiting for us in the Spirit world. After her talk, Janine will be open to a question and answer period followed by a book signing. misc_none Library closed until 1:00 pm due to staff training Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

To better serve our patrons, the library applied for and was awarded a grant to extensively train all library staff in customer service techniques. This training covers both traditional customer service and digital (such as helping patrons with technology issues.) The staff training will take place January through May on the second Thursday of the month. The library will be opening at 1:00 pm on those days to enable all staff to participate in the morning training sessions.

This is a federal Institute of Museum and Library Services grant, through the Library Services and Technology Act. It is administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
