New Year, New You!

Procrastinators often find it difficult to engage in relaxing activities as the anxiety of unfinished responsibilities nag at our consciousness and thoughts of “I should be” fill our minds. This interactive class will help participants to live a more engaging and active life by promoting action instead of delay and forward movement as opposed to stagnation.

The Dave Flippo Trio Presents "Jazz Goes Pop" - a collection of jazz arrangements of Classic Rock and contemporary gems that brings a new twist to familiar melodies that are played in new grooves, meters and chords. The concert features music of The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell as well as some more contemporary artists such as Amy Winehouse and Train. 

Dave Flippo has led various incarnations of this ensemble since 1992 and has played hundreds of performances throughout the Chicago area. They have just released their 5th CD, Life on Mars, which features many of the arrangements you'll be hearing tonight.

Outside of Warsaw, Chicago has the world's largest Polish population, but for the descendants of those immigrants, much of that culture has been lost, mingled with others, or it persists in the staunchest ways. Learn about the challenges of Polish immigration from the early 1800's to the present and discover the various centers of Polish an Polish-American culture and traditions. Join us for a multimedia presentation by former teacher and author Donna Urbikas, who emigrated to Chicago as a child and grew up in the Polish community of the 1950's and 60's, as highlighted in her recent memoir, My Sister's Mother: A Memoir of War, Exile, and Stalin's Siberia.
