During this workshop you will learn why and how we take photos and how the type of phone we use can affect how we choose to edit and store them.  Whether you plan to print, create digital slideshows, publish photo books, or post to social media, you still need to download, backup and organize your photos.  Each student will leave class with a personal photo management plan.

Massachusetts artist Gregory Maichack returns to the Brockton Public Library to host a pastel painting workshop entitled 'The 45 million dollar flower'.  This is a hands on pastel painting workshop for adults and older teens.  Participants will be guided through step by step instructions to create your own pastel artwork.  The two hour workshop is a wonderful opportunity for anyone from a sheer beginner to an established art student.  Greg is a portraitist and painter who works primarily in pastels so he is truly an expert teacher.  All art supplies will be provided so the class is FREE.  It is only necessary to register for the class in case it fills up.  Approximately 25 students can be accomodated.  Register with Keith Choquette, 508-580-7890, x105, kchoquette@cobma.us

This event is supported by the Brockton Cultural Council

Join local historian Gary Hylander in the Art Gallery of the Main Library for a fascinating talk on the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Never before or since have the American and the Russians been so perilously close to a nuclear war.   Professor Hylander is a local history professor who brings history alive through his lectures.  The art gallery is just off the rotunda in the old section of the library facing Main St., on the third floor.  Join us for the second lecture of a three part series on JFK.

This presentation will discuss how to shoot, back-up, manage workflow and edit photography using your DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera system.  We will examine and discuss the basic concepts of still photography - shutter speed, aperture (“F” stop), bracketing exposures, depth of field, etc.  This includes using the “rule of thirds” and good composition of each photograph.  We will also examine the use of wide angle, telephoto and close-up lenses, camera mounted flash and fill-lighting.  We will also discuss various photo editing software applications that are available for both PC and Mac-based computer systems
