    Contact: Lucia M. Shannon   508-580-7890 x203   lshannon@ocln.org

Craig Harris presents "An Introduction to American Indian Music" in conjunction with his recently released publication, "Heartbeat, Warble and the Electric Powwow: American Indian Music". The book is based on comprehensive research and interviews with over a hundred influential musicians, producers, and record label owners. Do not expect a boring lecture! Craig will employ a multi-media, participatory program which will celebrate the vastness of the indigenous North American musical tapestry, including music of powwow, drum groups, Native flutists, guitar slingers, reggae bands, hop hoppers, hot blues-rockers, disco divas,sharp-penned song writers, and electronic dance music collaborations.

Percussionist/author/educator Craig Harris has spent over four decades interviewing and photographing musicians. His reviews, photographs, and articles have appeared all over the nation in newspapers, magazines, and music-oriented websites. He authored "The New Folk Music", The Band: Pioneers of Americana Music" and now "Heartbeat, Warble, and the Electric Powwow: American Indian Music" published by the University of Oklahoma Press. Craig plays in the Gaea Star Band, cohosts a weekly Gaea Crystal Radio Hour for the Dream Vision 7 radio network. Applehead/SONY released their CD in November 2015. He has also played with Rick Danko(The Band), Greg Brown, Jonathan Edwards, Rod MacDonald, C.J. Chenier, Merl Saunders, Melanie, and Standing Bear. Before he launched his memorable multicultural and participatory Drum Away the Blues Program in Brockton and elsewhere, he taught music in public and charter schools for a few decades.
