Rape, race, and injustice form the ground of Louise Erdrich’s novel, The Round House. Narrated by the 13 year-old son, Bazil discovers that his mother’s withdrawal into depression is the result of a rape and that the white perpetrator is protected by a limbo of “jurisdiction issues”. Bazil faces taking justice into his own hands. If this isn’t material for discussion, what is? Please join the Brockton Public Library Book Group, new members are always welcome. Copies of the novel may be found at the Main circulation desk.
