    The Old Colony Y-Youth Branch, 465 Main St. Brockton is accepting registration for our Youth Basketball League. The league is open to boys and girls in Grades K-8. Emphasis is on players having fun, learning basketball skills, team work, and enhancing their personal development. The YBL continues to be one of the most popular Youth Sports Programs in the Brockton area. We place the emphasis on building positive values through the sport and incorporate“athletes first, winning second”.

Teams will participate in a 10-week season where everyone plays every game. Practices begin the week of Nov. 22 and meet once a week. Games are played on Saturday. The first game of the season begins December 11. Team shirt, banquet and awards ceremony are included in the price for this program.

Registration for Grades K-2 is on Nov. 10; Grades 3-5 on Nov. 12 and Grades 6-8 on Nov. 13. All registration is at 6:15 pm at the Old Colony YMCA Youth Branch,465 Main Street, Brockton.     The Old Colony YMCA Swim Team would like to invite you to an informational meeting for the 2010-2011 Swim Season. The program is designed to challenge the minds and bodies of its athletes, while developing their spirit. Athletes will be challenged and will gain experience for success in their lives. The goal of the Old Colony YMCA coaching staff is to develop proper techniques in all aspects of competitive swimming for each swimmer. Swimmers will constantly be challenged for continual improvement in these aspects. Coaching and practices will reflect this attitude. The Old Colony YMCA swim team will strive to teach, train and motivate swimmers of all ages to achieve their potential in competitive swimming and create an experience that will prove valuable to them throughout life.So please come join us to meet the coaches and learn about the Upcoming Storm Swim Season. Informational meetings will take place at the following locations:

    The Old Colony Y-Youth Branch at 465 Main St. Brockton, invites you to register your child/children to participate in our Fall I Session – September 5-October 23 offering many exciting and fun enrichment programs. Members can take advantage of early online register starting August 15 or walk in on August 16. Non-members can register online starting August 22 or walk in on August 23. Financial Assistance available for membership and programs.

Swimming Lessons (ages 6 months –adults) Private Lessons for youth and adults, Adult Lap, Senior Swim and Exercise (60 +), Family Swim, Birthday Pool Parties and Pool Rental are also available.

Karate (ages 6-12) develops character, integrity, self-discipline and respect for others. This program focuses on kicking techniques, self defense and physical fitness. New participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt.

Indoor Sports Soccer (ages 4-6) aimed at developing soccer skills and building stamina. This program teaches sportsmanship, team work, cooperation, ball handling and learning the rules of the game. Having fun is a key part of this sport!

Lil Sport Kickball (ages 4-6) Learn to play the fun game of kickball in our gym. Kicking and running is the key to this sport. Great exercise and fun for little ones.

Scrimmage Basketball Games (ages 8-12) Come play scrimmage games each week and stay on top of your game! Teams will be picked weekly giving players a chance to play with everyone.,

Youth Basketball League (grades K-8) This league continues to grow each year. It is one of the most popular youth sports programs in the Brockton area. Season consists of weekly practices and a 10 game schedule. Game shirts are provided and a banquet and award ceremony is held at the end of season. Sign Up Now!

Halloween at the YMCA Youth Branch is sure to excite, fright and make you laugh! A must attend favorite of both kids and parents. Come join us and be part of this fun and safe evening for the whole family. Walk down the “spooky” rooms and halls, jump around in our moonwalk, have your face painted, and more.

Old Colony Y Storm Swim Team (boys/girls ages 6-17) This is a competitive swim program building a strong foundation of self-confidence, commitment and goal setting. If your child would thrive on some competition in the pool then this is the program for them.

School Age Child Care Programs (ages 5-14) provide care for children in a safe setting with opportunities for mental, physical, social, and emotional development. We strive to support the child’s self-esteem and self-confidence. Your child can express his/her individual talents in arts, sports and other areas of interest. We offer income eligible slots for families who qualify, we except vouchers and private rates as well.

Fitness Center For Adults and Youth (9-14) offers a way to stay active and healthy while utilizing our cardiovascular fitness and strength training equipment. Membership is required.

    Good Samaritan Medical Center is seeking craft vendors for its 21st annual Country Fair & Chicken Barbecue Craft Fair. The event will be held on Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Good Samaritan Medical Center, 235 N. Pearl St. The participation fee for craft vendors will be $35 for one space and $60 for two spaces.     Bruce Feiler best-selling author of Walking the Bible, and The Council of Dads: My Daughters, My Illness, and the Men Who Could Be Me, will be the guest lecturer at Temple Beth Emunah’s Burton Schair Memorial Lecture on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Sponsor tickets ($50.00) include a private reception with the author at 6:00 PM, priority seating for the lecture, as well as a dessert reception and book signing following the event.     News from South Eastern MA, Brockton. Save the date!! On Sunday November 14, in partnership with the Shaw’s conference center and Campanelli stadium, home of the Brockton Rox the Brockton Firefighters Pipes and Drums would like to invite you to the second annual pipes and drums for a cause games (PDCG). The plan for t...hese games is quite simple. Public is invited to join us for this charity event at a cost of $10.00.There will be food door prizes and great spirits!!! Entrants (bands) will be required to play in a circle one march set for a time frame of 3 to 6 minutes and perform at the end of the evening in a massed band. Each band will pay a $150.00 entrance fee and pick a charity that is close and personal to your band. All entrants will be asked to help promote the event by sending out informational packets, selling tickets at $10.00 or just plain spreading the word. There will be a top four winners group and of those top four the prize money will be divided for the respective charities. First prize $1000, Second prize $800, third prize $500, fourth prize $200. All bands must have their charities named by November one (1st) for their charity to be eligible for prize money. Moses Sowale. This is a rare opportunity for people to learn about God and the Bible in an environment where the discussion takes its direction from their own questions and experiences.
