No Irish Need Apply: The History of the Irish in Boston
Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 6:30 PM

Join historian Christopher Daley forNo Irish Need Apply" is a 90-minute slide lecture in which the many facets of the early Irish experience in Boston are examined. The lecture begins with the story of the Irish who were brought over unwillingly as indentured servants in the mid-17th Century. Then the first real migration of the Irish in 1718 - the arrival of the Scot-Irish or the "Ulster Irish" will be discussed. Mr. Daley will also discuss other phases of the Irish influx into Boston.  Christopher Daley has been lecturing all over New England for over 20 years on historical topics of interest; at libraries, historical societies, schools and all sorts of clubs and organizations!  Mr. Daley is currently a history teacher in the Silver Lake Regional School System in Kingston Massachusetts.  He holds a B.A. and a M.A. from Bridgewater State University in Political Science and History. Mr. Daley has written several articles on varied historical topics for local publications and has completed a new book entitled "Murder and Mayhem in Boston: Historic Crimes in the Hub." Please register using Event Keeper through the library’s webpage at http://www.blackstonepubliclibrary.org or call the library at (508) 883-1931.  This program is supported in part by a grant from the Blackstone Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
