The BMRHS woodwind choir is comprised of band students who rehearse 1 to 2 times per week after school in a more intimate chamber music setting. The instrumentation of the choir varies from year to year, but listeners can expect to hear flutes, clarinets and saxophones, and oftentimes such less common instruments such as the oboe, alto flute, bass clarinet and bassoon. The small size of the group often means one student per part; giving a soloistic nature to many musical passages. The BMRHS woodwind choir presents a wide variety of concerts each year, ranging from holiday shows to the National Honor Society Induction to the Annual BMR Craft Fair.
The Woodwind Choir is led by Mr. Mickey Ireland. Mr. Ireland is currently in his second year as a member of the BMRSD music department. He is the director of the 6th Grade Band, co-director of the 5th Grade Band and serves as the woodwind specialist for grades 5-12. In addition, he is on the music staff of the award-winning BMR Chargers Marching Band and directs the Hartnett Middle School Jazz Band. Prior to his arrival at BMR, Mr. Ireland was a clarinetist in the Air Force Band of Liberty from 2005-2013, performing in the Concert Band, Woodwind Quintet and Clarinet Quartet across the Northeast.
