A half hour of instruction followed by a half hour of supervised play where students can test their new skills and ask questions. Classes are free to the public and are recommended for grades K-8. Students of all skills are encouraged to also participate in our Annual Chess Tournament on Saturday, February 20th at 1pm.

The Castle Shannon Library will once again be holding its Annual Chess Tournament. All children in Kindergarten through 4th grade are invited to participate in the Junior Division. Likewise, all children in grades 5th-8th are invited to participate in the Senior Division. Trophies will be given to 1st and 2nd place in each division. The first place winners from each division will be invited to attend the Finals Chess Tournament, held in March, where they will compete with other finalists throughout Allegheny County.
