misc_none 1:00 PM Movie Matinee - Salmon Fishing in the Yemen Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
    Contact:      cluciani@cheshirelibrary.org

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen – 2011, 107 min. In Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, a visionary Sheikh (Amr Waked) believes his passion for the peaceful pastime of salmon fishing can enrich the lives of his people, and he dreams of bringing the sport to the not so fish-friendly desert. Willing to spare no expense, he instructs his representative (Emily Blunt) to turn the dream into reality, an extraordinary feat that will require the involvement of Britain's leading fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor), who happens to think the project both absurd and unachievable. That is, until the Prime Minister's overzealous press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas) latches onto it as a 'good will' story. Now, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible.

Mindfulness is deliberate awareness to the present moment with qualities of acceptance, non-judgment, curiosity, and observation.

Mindful Parenting is the practice of intentionally bringing purposeful awareness to everyday parenting situations in order to cultivate and deepen  the parent-child connection.

Children who grow feeling connected to their parents:

  • Have healthy self-esteem
  • Do better in school
  • Choose healthy relationships
  • Feel comfortable around adults
  • Explore and try new things
  • Have an easier time with change
  • Develop a positive self-concept

In other words, the parent-child connection grows happy children!

    Contact: Kimberly White   203-272-2245   kwhite@cheshirelibary.org

Join us for special Play and Sign Class where we learn signs all about getting ready for bedtime!

Play and Sign classes give babies the signs they need to express their needs and wants. Original and clever songs from "Baby Signing Time" make learning American Sign Language (ASL) signs fun and easy. ASL signs are straightforward and are easy for parents, caregivers and children to learn. As a parent or caregiver, you do not need to become fluent in ASL, even learning a few signs can be helpful. Signing with your hearing child is effective in reducing tantrums and frustration, creates a wonderful opportunity for bonding, and research has suggested that signing encourages an interest in books and higher IQ scores than babies who did not use hand gestures.

Ages birth to 2 years with caregiver.

    Contact: Kimberly White   203-272-2245   kwhite@cheshirelibrary.org

Circle of Friends Music of Southington is proud to present Zingalingz, a music and fitness program for children ages 5-12. Our specially designed movements and activities can help kids gain the important benefits of increased fitness and greater learning power. It’s used as an effective teaching method for turning physical activity into energizing singing, dancing, and movement. Clear verbal instructions and sequential movements are found in our exciting and high-energy musical collection. A bonus portion offers song lyrics and melodies for listening, creative movement and relaxation. This comprehensive program expands upon the movement activities for children and their benefits. It’s also a valuable resource for adults who want to incorporate fitness and kids dance music into their daily lives as well as instilling fitness activities within the household. The interplay of exercise and music is fascinating perhaps in part because it edges into multiple disciplines, from physiology to to neurology as we incorporate props and music/fitness games.

Zingalingz was developed by Felice Danielson, music/fitness instructor, with Jen Gilmore, fitness instructor/former preschool teacher.

Ages 5 to 12 [Parents and/or caregivers are welcome to participate with their children.]

Maybe you remember Grandma’s old blue dress and serious shoes or Dad’s best suit and hat, but did you ever wonder why they wore what they wore? This program explores how clothing communicates who we are, what we do, and the society in which we live. You’ll look at everything from military inspiration during the Civil War to the influence of political liberalism in the 1960s. Recall the clothing of your ancestors, your parents, and your own fashion choices as we take this little trip through over 100 years of fashion.
