The author and photographer, Emery Roth is speaking on his new book, "Brass Valley: The fall of an American Industry". They called the steep valley of Connecticut’s Naugatuck River, "Brass Valley,” because from the time the world began running on steam and bearings, trolleys and soot, the Naugatuck Valley came to be where most of the world’s brass manufacturing happened. Brass Valley: The Fall of an American Industry (Schiffer Books, 2015) is a book of pictures and stories about how it all happened.

Who are our Muslim neighbors? What do they believe? How do extremist actions worldwide affect them? Hear Connecticut Muslims share their stories, and respond to questions such as:

  • Why don’t we hear moderate Muslims speak out against extremism?
  • Why do some girls and women wear Muslim dress, and others do not?
  • What does the Qur’an really say about people of other religions?

American Muslims don't have all the answers, but our guests will respond out of their own experiences, raising issues that concern them as well as us. Together, in conversation, we can promote a more peaceful world for everyone. Author/illustrator John Himmelman presents Birds; Their Side of the Story…

How did our best-known birds earn that distinction?  What are some of the crazy things they make us do?  Why are there so many pigeons in cities?  What did Ben Franklin really think about Bald Eagles?  John shares light-hearted stories of birds and bird watching - from cuisine to cartoons, ornaments to icons, murmurs to murders.  You’ll be given a whole new look at the avian friends we so admire (and some, not so much…).  John Himmelman is a children’s book/natural history author and illustrator, who has written and illustrated about 80 books since 1981.  He is an avid bird watcher and served as president of the New Haven Bird Club for two years.

A born sounder and mover, your baby is already equipped with the means and potential to make music. You've probably noticed how they respond when you play a song in the car or sing them a song to soothe them. Developing your baby's natural musicality will open the door to a world of possibility, not only for music learning but for all learning. We invite you to try out this demonstration of a Music Together Babies Class for families with infants from birth through eight months of age. In this class, the activities are specifically designed to teach you how to support music development in infancy and how to connect with your baby through music using methods such as "purposeful touch", "sound-layering",  and "dancing for baby".

Music Together an internationally recognized early childhood music program. This research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum strongly encourages adult involvement and emphasizes actual music experiences rather than concepts about music.

This class is presented by Michele Urban from Musical Folk.

    Contact: Anna    203-272-2245 Ext. 4

Imagine what it would be like to visualize what you wanted to achieve and then use that visualization to make it happen.  Could it really be that simple? How often do you "wish" for things to be different?  We all frequently wish for things, but often not much seems to happen.  Isn't it about time to reverse that trend? What if I told you that by simply becoming mindful, setting intentions, and creating a powerful collage of pictures called a Vision Board, you could accomplish success?

Vision Boards Help Provide Clarity -- By placing your images on a board, you create a bridge between the thoughts in your mind to something tangible-a format you can see and feel. Clarity also gives you the emotional energy you'll need to keep working toward your goals in tough times. Composing a clear, vivid vision board is the most important step in making your goals and dreams a reality. It's the key to consistency.  For example, to say "I want a better life" is a fine goal, but have you given serious thought to exactly what that means? Try to envision what your "better life" looks like. That's what this workshop will help you do.

Fiona Bain is a Certified Life Coach who received her training through the accredited program at the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC).
