Rama was a long-time Washington resident and a Reference Librarian for Citizens Library.

Her love of books was inspired by her father, and followed her from her childhood in India to her immigration to New York to her many years in Washington. She believed that learning and knowledge have the power to transform lives.

Rama had a passion for Genealogy and local history as well as an affinity for indexing local history collections.

The Rama Karamcheti Fund was created by Rama’s family to provide support to the Reference and Genealogy departments at Citizens Library while keeping Rama’s memory alive. It is the family’s hope that ongoing contributions to this fund will help to support a place and a cause that was most special to Rama.

The Washington County Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) publicly-supported charitable corporation.  The official registration and financial information of the Foundation may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling toll-free, within Pennsylvania, 1-800-732-0999.
