Save The Date for the Seventh Annual Off The Shelf... A Celebration of Books

Date: September 17, 2014
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Place: Hilton Garden Inn, Southpointe

Off The Shelf… A Celebration of Books is an annual event presented by the law firm Peacock Keller to benefit the 20 libraries in Washington, Greene and Fayette Counties.  Over the years Peacock Keller has raised over $160,000 for the libraries through this unique and fun filled evening that is centered each year around a themed dinner table decorating contest.  Each table at the fundraiser chooses a book related to the theme and decorates their table accordingly.  All tables are judged during the evening on creativity with prizes awarded to the top tables. A live auction rounds out the evening.

The 2014 theme is Food – and the guest speaker is TV personality, food writer and nutritionist, Robin Miller!

All Off The Shelf proceeds go toward the creation and maintenance of the Regional "One-Card" Network, WAGGIN.  The "One-Card" Network ensures that every resident may go to any library in the three-county region and use one library card, thus increasing convenience and accessibility for library customers while simultaneously facilitating cost savings and efficiencies for the library system.

Tickets are $75 per person, and various sponsorship levels are available. For more information, visit http://www.peacockkeller.com/offtheshelf.

“Lost: When Wandering Turns Dangerous”

Six out of ten seniors with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia exhibit wandering type behaviors. Unfortunately three out of ten will become lost when they wander away. This behavior can result in serious consequences because if the individual is not located within eight hours, they are at high risk for serious injury or death. This presentation will focus on recognizing and preventing wandering behaviors, maintaining a secure environment, search and rescue information along with location devices, and having an appropriate plan of action in place should it become necessary.

Presented by Betty Robison. Betty Robison is the Gerontology Educator at the Aging Institute of UPMC Senior Services and the University of Pittsburgh. Her career as a nurse and educator has spanned 41 years with the primary focus on the care of the older adult population.
