“Play & Learn” Parent-Toddler Workshop

           The spring session of the “Play & Learn” Parent-Toddler Workshop will be on Wednesday mornings, 11:00 – 12:15, on May 6, 13, 20, 27, and June 3.  The five-week workshop is for children ages 1-3 years, with a parent or adult caregiver.  Each week’s 75-minute program will include circle time, play time, an art activity, and individual time with a community resource professional to discuss issues of children’s health and development.

           Enrollment is limited, and registration is required for this workshop.  To register, or for more information, please call the Children’s Dept. at 724-222-2400, ext. 235.

              The Children’s Department will be celebrating “National Doughnut Day” on Friday, June 5.  Stop in the Children’s Dept. that day and get a free doughnut – while supplies last, of course.  National Doughnut Day, celebrated on the first Friday in June, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army.

Members of the community are encouraged to visit www.wccfgives.org, go to the "Charity Search" section of the site, and click on the charity profile pages of their favorite WCCF Gives participants to cast their votes. Contest participants may cast a vote for more than one charity. The charity who receives the most unique pageviews during the contest period will receive a $1,000 unrestricted grant.

Summer Reading Club – “Every Hero Has a Story!

              We’ll be flying into summer as HEROES for Summer Reading Club at Citizens Library!  With the theme “Every Hero Has a Story!” there will plenty of adventure and fun with stories, crafts, movies, field trips, and other activities.  It all starts with Registration Day on Monday, JUNE 22, beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Games and Activities are slated for 11:00 – 1:00 that day, or register any time after that.  Get a reading record (available for all ages, toddlers to adults) to track what you read this summer, plus a schedule of events for all ages.          

           Program events start the week of June 29, and include:

  • Tuesday “Kids’ Days” – 11:00 – 12:00; for kids finishing grades 1-6
  • Wednesday “Family Nights” – 6:30 – 7:30; for all ages
  • Thursday “Summer Story Time” – 10:30 – 11:00; for preschoolers, ages 3-5 (must be 3 by June 1)
  • Thursday “Special K Story Time” – 11:30 – 12:30; for kids finishing Kindergarten & entering 1st grade

Support Citizens Library on WCCF Gives Day. 

Beginning at 8 a.m. on September 9, all gifts made to participating charities via www.wccfgives.org and all designated WCCF Gives check contributions received on that day will be increased by part of a bonus pool, estimated to be $100,000.  The minimum contribution is only $25, but donors are welcome to give as much and to as many charities as they would like during WCCF Gives.  Share in the excitement of this special event by supporting your favorite local charities through WCCF Gives, Washington County’s official community-wide day of giving.
