Fowler Branch Exhibit - "Wildness & Wonder"

Housed in the Concord Free Public Library Fowler Branch, this exhibit mirrors 16th-century Curiosity Cabinets, where a rainbow assortment of specimens were displayed in rooms for personal enjoyment and wonder. In honor of Thoreau’s 2017 bicentennial and love of nature, the show will be included in Concord’s celebration of this acclaimed naturalist, and in the library’s ‘Concord Reads’ program centered around Thoreau’s piece Walking.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Concord Local Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

lib_book_signing 6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Thoreau at the Library (Main Library) Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Author Richard Higgins will give an illustrated talk about his book Thoreau and the Language of Trees in the Main Library Rotunda.

In this original book, Higgins explores Thoreau's deep connections to trees: his keen perception of them, the joy they gave him, the poetry he saw in them, his philosophical view of them, and how they fed his soul. His lively essays show that trees were a thread connecting all parts of Thoreau's being-heart, mind, and spirit. Included are one hundred excerpts from Thoreau's writings about trees, paired with over sixty of the author's photographs.

A book signing will follow the reading. The event is free and open to all.

What do you get when you cross a cookbook with a book group?  A Cookbook Club, of course!

Check out a copy of the selected bookbook (starting on November 29th) at the library, pick a recipe (we'll keep track to avoid duplicates), and prepare it for the program. We'll sample lots of good food, talk about what worked and what didn't, and select future cookbooks.

Registration Required.

    Location: Fowler Library
Registration will begin on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 12:01 AM
