misc_none 6:30 PM Viewing Pleasure- King of the Hill     Tell a Friend
Based on the coming-of-age memoir by A. E. Hotchner, this first studio effort by director Steven Soderbergh tells the story of an imaginative and resourceful adolescent growing up in St. Louis during the Great Depression. After his brother is sent to live with a well-off relative and his tubercular mother to a sanitarium, young Aaron must survive on his own in a run-down hotel during his salesman father’s long trips away. This evocative period piece, among the versatile Soderbergh’s most touching and surprising films, was nominated for the prestigious Palme d’Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1993 and reaffirms that even the worst of times can be endured with imagination and hope.

misc_none 6:30 PM Viewing Pleasure- The Crossing Guard     Tell a Friend
Jack Nicholson delivers a bravura performance as a man whose life has been halted by tragedy in this dramatic character study by actor and director Sean Penn. When the man responsible for the crime is released from prison, Freddy Gale (Nicholson) pledges to hunt him down and kill him in three days. Co-starring Angelica Huston, Robin Wright, and David Morse as the target of Freddy’s vengeance, The Crossing Guard is an explosive film that explores how outside forces can change or destroy one’s world —and how what we keep buried inside us can also bury us.

Join us on November 22nd at 7:00 PM for an after-hours meal and film screening of “The Straight Story” Based on the true story of a no-nonsense senior whose journey over two states to visit an ailing brother involves the unlikeliest mode of transport, this 1999 film by director David Lynch (Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks) is a contemplative and intimate film about the ties that bind and how life passes quickly —even at five miles per hour. Starring Richard Farnsworth in his final role and Sissy Spacek as his warm-hearted and caring daughter, The Straight Story is a moving study of lives on the move, as well as showing that sometimes the destination is just as important as the journey.
