Children in grades 4+ are invited to learn about Animal Advocates, people who work tirelessly to help those who cannot speak for themselves. Meet Mark Stoutzenberger, owner/operator of Outbound Hounds, and co-founder of Handsome Dan's Rescue. Mark will bring a few of his dogs and tell us about his important work with animals, including training and helping those neglected and/or abused.
Mutt-i-grees in the Library is an exciting initiative that fosters social and emotional development and builds on children's affinity for Mutt-i-grees or shelter animals.

Check our a wrapped teen book from a special display.

Don't peek! Remember, it's a blind date after all. You just might fall in love - with a book -that is. Even if you don't make a love connection, just bring it back It's feelings won't be hurt. Receive candy just for "dating" the book at the Central Library beginning July 1st and for each rating slip (found in the book) that you return you earn an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing for the "Beneath the Surface" themed Teen Summer Reading Program.

The show features 45 minutes of magic and comedy suitable for the whole family. A program for ages 4 and up. Free tickets may be picked up at the Youth Services Desk 1/2 hour ahead of time in the Childrens' Room.

Rhode Island Teen Book Award Readers Sign-up

Become a reader of the 2014 Rhode Island Teen Book Award nominees. You can help to choose the next RITBA winner. How? Just commit to reading three of the books nominated for the award this year. Readers will receive a candy and a free book as a reward for joining. Those who also join the Teen Summer Reading Club will also earn an entry into the Grand prize Drawing for an Ipad for each RITBA book they read and rate.
This program is open to grades going into grade 7 through grade 12. Registration begins June 17th.

Go beneath the surface to discover the secrets of a great summer at the Teen Underground Cafe! Socialize with your friends and chill out with food and a delicious Coolatta, courtesy of Dunkin' D onuts. Enjoy a Divergent Party! You do not have to read the book to enjoy this exciting event. But, you just might want to read it after this thrilling experience. In this story, society is divided into five factions. On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives.Which one would you choose? Remember one choice can transform you! The book becomes a movie in 2014. If you like Hunger Games, then Divergent is for you.The Teen Cafe is open to those entering grades 5 to 9. Older teens may volunteer for the program and earn service credits.
