    Who doesn't enjoy a good game?  Using ancient and modern toys from countries around the world, your child will practice hand-eye coordination, control, and cooperation in this fun and engaging program.  They will also get a chance to make their own toys to take home and share with their world.     Join in the 9th annual Joan Y. Leopold Children’s Book Week celebration with author and illustrator of this year’s title, Mouse TV. Matt Novak will be on hand for four presentations at three DCLS library locations, the Elizabethville Area Library, the William H. and Marion C. Alexander Family Library and the East Shore Area Library. Each family that attends a special author program will receive a free copy of Mouse TV and will have an opportunity to get the book signed. Craft activities will follow the program. Registration begins October 1 and is required to attend the program. Space is limited.

This Children’s Book Week Celebration is made possible by the Joan Y. Leopold Endowment Fund. Joan Y. Leopold, a lifelong resident of Dauphin County, served as a board member of the Dauphin County Library System for more than 20 years. A tireless advocate for both child and adult literacy, her belief that reading opens a world of education and imagination lives on in her family, students and all those she touched through her efforts.

    Join registered therapy dogs for a fun session of reading. This special program encourages children of all reading levels to read to the easiest and most willing audience – a dog. Each child has the opportunity to read to the dog for about 15 minutes. Registration for this program is by appointment. In addition to reinforcing ABCs and 123s, We Get Together lets your child practice taking turns, cooperating, and communicating feelings and needs – all cleverly disguised as fun! Stories, games and other activities will help your child be ready for school. *These programs are made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services as administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the office of Commonwealth Libraries, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Tom Corbett, Governor. Program length: 45 minutes. Registration Limit: 15. Ages: 4-6 years.

Simple art activities, toys, and sharing with others will help children strengthen motor and social skills, while being encouraged in early reading to foster a love of books. *This project has been (partially) funded with federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.
