Join us in the Children's Room for an evening of fun as part of the Summer Reading Club.

DJs are known for their mixing of music - taking two different songs and making something original. D.J. Mixup does the same thing using books! D (Dan) and J (Jason) take popular children’s stories and use audience input to change the stories around in a fun and original way. What if Curious George was a hippopotamus? What would happen if Goldilocks met three crocodiles? What if Corduory was missing a purple crayon and Harold had the magic button? Using improvisation, no two shows are alike! Audience members will be brought into the action as Dan and Jason use props and silly costumes to make their stories come to life and share their own love of reading.

This program is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Join us on the 4th Tuesday of each month for this adult book  discussion that is open to all.  A different contemporary adult fiction and non-fiction book will be discussed at each meeting.

This month’s selection is: Little Heathens: Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression by Mildred Armstrong Kalish (2008)
Little Heathens offers a loving but realistic portrait of a “hearty-handshake Methodist” family that gave its members a remarkable legacy of kinship, kindness, and remembered pleasures. Recounted in a luminous narrative filled with tenderness and humor, Kalish’s memoir of her childhood shows how the right stuff can make even the bleakest of times seem like “quite a romp.”

Join us on the 4th Tuesday of each month for this adult book  discussion that is open to all.  A different contemporary adult fiction and non-fiction book will be discussed at each meeting.

This month’s selection is: The Yellow Birds, by Kevin Powers -- the 2014 One Book, One Philadelphia selection.   Powers vividly tells the story of a young soldier struggling to find meanig in his harrowing experiences in Iraq, while suffering profound guilt over his friend and fellow soldier's death as well as alienation from community and family upon his return home.
